3h10m53 for me at Boston. Even Split too! :open_mouth:
quite pleased as it was just 3 days after a trail marathon, and a ParkRun.

I took part in a bit of a different event on Sunday. The Wrexham Elite Marathon which was 7 laps of Wrexham Industrial Estate (its not quite as bad as it sounds but no replacement for a big city marathon)

In 2021 it was an epic race that I think galvanised on a lot of very fit people ready to race and saw nearly 50 break 2:30 in the marathon from a field of 150 or so. Although there was equally capable people this year it certainly wasn’t as strong. I think 70 or so Marathon finishers and the half was perhaps more popular with both a low DNS and DNF rate.

It was excellently organised as all Run Cheshire events are and with it being 7 laps you got excellent timing at both each lap and each 0.5 lap (as the half marathon was 3.5 laps!). The first 3.5 laps were great as ran with lots of Half marathoners though it suddenly became much quieter at that point obviously. I had a really nice little group around me from 3.5 to 5 but shortly after lap 5, on guy pushed on feeling strong (going on to run 2:32) and the rest fell off the back (one DNF’ing even then) so I had a pretty lonely last two laps.

It was very much an experiment for me as I know what my marathon heart rate is so happy to just sit at that but what has been different for this one was ive done pretty much no specific marathon training. Just the two ish weekly hard sessions and a steady base mileage of 60-70 mile a week. Ive only run more than 18 miles three times this year and only one at MP at a 20 mile event. Decided to just sit at heart rate and see what would get.

Went through half way in 1:16:08 which is pretty much exactly what I would expect but by mile 17 could feel the lack of MP condition as just felt like no power in the legs. Felt like was almost jogging though I was actually moving ok. I’d only dropped 10ish second per km and with a bit of a headwind on one side and a tailwind on the other it was a little difficult to keep track of where was dropping and gaining pace. Finished in 2:34:12 which is a 1:45 PB which like I say im pleased with off just general running fitness though I would like to get the conditioning better to do a 1:16-even split instead of a 1:16/1:18 (and hopefully more like 1:15/1:15)

I’ll be at London in October but its a toss up between increasing marathon specific fitness or working on speed to that down to 3:34/km at Marathon HR:)

Good work Tom, added you on Strava.

I’m a fan of laps. Not sure how I’d cope in that setting, mind!

As per the trail thread it’s the 3 peaks for me tomorrow. Not sure if there’s any live splits but the target is really just to get round.

Looking forward to it but no idea how I’ll feel after 2 hours. Run earlier in the week wasn’t pleasant but I’ve kept it easy since and will probably just swim tonight.

Sub 4:15 would be nice but I won’t be too disappointed if I don’t get it.

One more race the weekend after then need to get a bit more focus and start cycling again.
