That’s my target for the year too…
Hopefully got my sabbatical over the school summer holidays, so need to have a think!
It’ll involve the gravel bike.
Not sure on owt else.
EDIT - Here they are
- 3 day Coast to Coast and back ride
- 325km on Summer Solstice
- Dirty Reiver 200km route
- Festive 500
- 25 x 100km rides
- Finish remaining Zwift courses
- 19 x parkruns
- Complete a triathlon of any distance
Okay, so here is how works:
1 is this (overnight stops at Ribblesdale Viaduct and then my Dad’s)
2 is carried over from this year, but should be easier as there’s a few of us doing it in 2023
3 - my clubmates should carry me round!
4 - Done it pre, short 60km, probably do it post this year, too. But never actually done it on the days.
5 - will help with 1, 2 and 4. I only ride every other weekend, so this should mean each of my weekend rides should be over 100km
6 - Will stop me doing Tempus Fugit and Tick Tock
7 - Not ran properly since November 2021, start line is 2km from my front door, so this will get me to 50 parkruns and allows for some weekends off:
8 - To make sure I swim
Fitness comp early in the year so motivated for that.
A 1:17 sprint should be beatable if I ride my bike outside more than twice all year before hand !
I have some gym challenges and a few tri based ones that I’m not revealing just yet.
This will be my last big year work wise 2024 I’ll do a full distance race or a crazy long bike/ run I’m guessing.
Most importantly appreciate that I can train and push to the limits when we all know-so many who can’t through no fault of there own.
That shit really inspires me.
Some great goals there @Poet , that coast to coast to coast looks like a monster
Goals…….nothing fixed a few ideas floating around …….entry to IM Wales but no idea if I will be on the start line, it’s a long way off. TIme Trails are out and a BBAR certificate has always been a goal. I like the idea of an ultra…….
Got a couple of non triathlon related things going on ……begin my training to become a C award netball umpire later this week, complete my diploma and some work related qualifications……get Luna settled in (picture to be posted on DAWGS thread later) …….
Hmmmm……
i rode Costa to Costa in a flood a few years ago - Costa at Whitehaven @ 8am aiming to get to Costa in Sunderland before closing…
it was abject misery for me trying to keep up and for the others to ride slowly enough to allow me to keep up…
So, i ticked one of those runs off yesterday…that gives me a little over 11 months to do 1 more run, a couple of bikes and an odd swim…
I don’t think I’ve stated my goals in the past, but here we go.
I’m now in that 'orrible last year of my current AG so although I’ll do my best on the day I’ve got no great expectations.
Excuses, excuses…my plans for '23 are:-
-
Bring my time down at my local Parkrun by a minute to around 20:30. It’s one of the tougher routes out there, but once I hit that 20:30 I’ll go along to a flatter/faster course to massage my ego.
-
Harlech Duathlon in late March, it’s also the Welsh Champs, although being at the wrong end of my AG I’ll be on it.
-
The Gralloch gravel race on May the 20th. Strange one this. I’ve never raced gravel as I just do it for giggles & the love of exploring but this is a UCI qualifier when the top 25% of each AG get the opportunity to go to the World Champs.
-
Chtriman half distance in early July. Between Calais & Dunkirk this will be a bit of fun before we take our summer hols in Belgium & Holland if the weather is good & if not we’ll pop down to the south of France.
I’m assuming the guy not wearing socks had his bike thrown into the water?
How odd is your swimming ?
Phil Holland. Outstanding athlete. Arrived with a gilet and arm warmers.
Was seen shivering trying to shelter under a gutter in Allentown.
Got to the top of Stanhope then came back for me and pushed my up. I was feked….
Extremely….
No 70.3 WC, No KQ, no Kona, for the first time since 2018 I have no hard Triathlon goals. My only outstanding objective is sub 9 and I am not longer sure that this is realistic
The big one for 2023 will be TCR if I get a place, Hopefully by the end of the month I will hear if I am successful. To be honest, this is the first event that scares me: the more i research it, the more I realise that it is a very hard race, and one that comes with some real dangers
I will try to do some proper marathon training. I remember reading a thread some while back which pointed out that in running clubs, anything below 2h45m was considered as fast… I need to find 8 minutes. Will have a go in Zurich on 23 April
Following dabbling with Ultras in 2022, I will have another go at the Swiss Easter Back Yard Ultra, with the objective of 24 hours. Following this, and inspired by @gingerbongo the Jurassic Coast Extinction Ulra on 24 June is on the plan
July is currently clear for TCR, but if I don’t get a place, Triverest would be an option.
Ironman Wales will be main event in September
Still thinking about sub 9, I have 2 options, one would be Outlaw on 30 July, this will depend on TCR. The other option would be Barcelona in October - It’s a race I am not too keen on, however, the lure of sub 9 and advancing age may tip the balance
I have some other objectives, a sub 4 hour 100 mile would be great. thinking about doing a 24 hour run on a track, see if I can go over 200k. Finally a top 1000 ranking on Zwift… I got to 1003 this year

no idea if Costa was open, the pub was though
costa was shut for us…but yep, the pub was open…thank fek…
That’s Whitby!!!
walking C2C ends in RHB at the Dolphin Inn.
Brilliant
Looks like another hell of a year Matt!
I’ll try to get involved in JC in some way. Still tempted to give the 100km option a proper bash.
Make it to the start line for London Marathon in April. Not doing a time goal until I know my fitness levels after having to defer with injury in October.
Do the Swim the Serpentine in September. Try not to catch a disease from swallowing the water.
Glasgow-Edinburgh-Glasgow cycle.
Various other little progress goals and cycling routes I want to tick off I won’t bore anyone with.
Enter something big for 2024. Could I cope with a full in 20months time…
Keep enjoying it. Maybe get over myself and look to make exercise a more social thing - I’m still very much in the ‘I hate talking to anyone when I’m running/swimming/cycling’ club

25 x 100km rides
That’s a good one, quite punchy I’d say.
Just looked at my rides from last year. I did 10 over 100km. Might steal that, 25 sounds achievable but a good challenge
i would say just do more in 2023, but doing anything would pretty much be a step up:
In 2022:
Running: 129 runs, 699 km @13.19 km per week and 5.03 km per run.
Body mass up from 70.2 to 75
Bike: 914.75 km = 18.66 km per week…and less than 1 ride per week…
Swim: barely worth recording @ 351m per week…
