Anyone else in for Barca this weekend? Just Mr ME?
Going to be a good north east M45 showdown between him and Keith, both looking for a Nice slot as well

@tunster @gingerbongo , looking at the kit list, if we wear a warm base layer, does it mean we need another in the bag as well? I’m reading it that way.
I would say so, yes. As it’s to cover you if you take a fall or something. Then you have extra layers to be able to use.
I think that’s what I’ve done before, just couldn’t remember. Bloody pack is getting bulky and I haven’t put any nutrition on yet!
Haha - i know! I haven’t started packing yet. Will do that at lunchtime today i think.
Lots of sandwich bags with stuff in to keep them dry and separate. I keep wondering whether i should strip down to the bare minimum for that first 70/80km to drop one. I’ll be fresh. it’ll be day light. I’ll probs be with a mate at that point. Plus there’s a big flat section. So would it be better to move freely for that first 7-9 hours. And then really load up at Barny with extra layers and food and stuff.
Totally unsure of how to attack this one. Much overthinking!
I would say that sounds sensible at your speed. The really slow bit starts after Wooly, so for me, that’s the bit I need to make sure I have enough of everything, which of course means carrying it from the start, or from Barny in your case.
I was wondering about separate bags. I have a 3ltr dry bag, I can can get all the mandatory kit in just, but it’s bulky. The only thing I’m likely to need is the w/p jacket if it gets cold and the spare torch battery, which will be in my pocket.
My London Marathon reject top just arrived - will be using that as my additional layer
I’ve just been poring over the maps looking for the sections that I fucked up on last time. Trying my hardest to commit them to memory.
Pulled one section up on Google street view. It’s weird how it immediately invoked the feeling of panic that I had 5 years ago as if it were yesterday. I had missed a turn, but my map on my phone wouldn’t load beyond a pixellated load of nonsense. Dawn was breaking so I was super tired. And I just could not work out what to do. Was running up and down this road.
Turns out I just needed to go up another 100m or so. Spent 14 mins in this mild state of helplessness! Deprivation of sleep driven cognitive impairment at it’s best! Getting more and more worked up as I was desperately trying to be competitive.
Hopefully won’t make that mistake again. Plus I’ll be much more chilled this time!
Which part are you talking about?
@tunster , were you and your son still interested in Escape from Meriden? Jan was saying that people are starting to sell their tickets. There is a FB page where this happens. If you need more info just let me know.
Probably not top of your thoughts right now with your impending race
He’s got 6hrs of M6/M5 traffic jams to ponder it.
We’re up! All 18 of us in the 110km
Thanks @Sparky
He has a knee issue at the moment so not been up to much running but will see if I can collar any of my mates into it
Cool, well I am on support duties for a couple of others. So will have lots of food and drink from 4am ish if you happen to run in the same direction as them
Oh dear - M5 is shut both ways near Weston.
Hope you don’t get too delayed @tunster
@Sparky and anyone else. That link that FP popped above will be the same one for all 3 races. You just toggle the distances.
Fark me
First 200 miles 3 hrs
Last 2.5 hrs 18 miles of crawling diversions from motorway closure
ETA 9pm
Will be an 8.5 hr journey ffs
Deep breaths !
I was thinking of you mate on the drive to Mum’s. Radio Somt were giving updates on how bad the situation is!
Stay calm
Yeha my work teams chat was going off constantly this afternoon. I was going to be going in today as well. So glad I didn’t!
At least you’ve got tonight and all day to chill @tunster. Nice lazy morning
