2024 Races

Really enjoyed that write up Jeff. I admire you patience with the bike schlepping and packing/unpacking!

So we are in Dublin for the Marathon. I can’t run but I’ve just gone with Jan and Dubliner friend James to pick up their numbers and race bags.

The latter are nuts in terms of the free stuff in them. However what I can’t get my head around is that EVERYONE gets a loaf of bread :bread: in their race bag. That’s 22500 loaves of bread. That’s a lot of sandwiches :exploding_head:

That’s a bit random!

At least at the triathlon I did in Berwick they only gave out about 100 trees!

Our local sprint a few years ago was sponsored by Blackmore Vale Dairies, everyone got a litre of milk in their goody bag (room temperature).

I freeze a For Goodness Shake milky protein drink and have that post race. Always lovely and warm. By 4-6pm after a full :joy:

Tell Jan that having the loaf is Tip-Top, she’ll get it.

Just did Luzern Marathon in 3h11. Very pleased as I did an IM last weekend. Bit of an experiment to see how it would go. Paced pretty well with 1h34 first half and 1h37 second

It’s a tough Marathon with 4 pretty decent climbs.

What… :exploding_head:

Probably the wrong site … but here goes
Hyrox Birmingham 2024

Mungo rides again !

Firstly after a successful Oulton park effort I was expecting more… no sandbagging here.
But it certainly wasn’t a disaster.

A 17:20 Saturday race time start is a bit weird and my Audis heater packing up after 7.5 years of mostly faultless ownership in the morning wasn’t great…. Stress !

However got there in the petrol guzzler in plenty of time, it really is a crazy event
8000 over 3 days.
Tea time came and we were off
Two guys I know both half my age were in my wave considerably stronger than me but neither runners … not ideal… but hey ho.
I never saw either again after the first few meters.
Benchmark was 1:21:48 in Jan
Race went well till the awful wall balls
Fell apart again but not as bad as Manchester
A full min faster overall !
Lol.

Av run speed which probably interests most of you more than this cross fit crap up from 4:50 to 4:36 per km.
everything 20 ish seconds faster apart from sled pull ( the one Joe skipper took 15 mins on)
No idea why … work needed.
Numbers
10 th 55-60 200 + in age group yesterday
630 th ish out if 2704 in my race.
Av hr 168 max 182.

I love these crazy races they even have old school body marking, loads of triathletes there, great fun !

Sub 1:20 next time !

Good man, I’d looked up your result & seen you were 63secs faster than Jan…did you beat those 2 lads you knew?

The vast majority are 25-40
Insta pictures innit.

More like a male model convention at times some very fast …lots beaten by an old man who actually does cardio.

Ped use very evident but most of those were too big to run, great atmosphere.

Yes.
One was looking for 1:30 and went 1:29
Nice race
The other said he would do 1:10 he fell apart on the burpees and DNF”d.
Not so much … but we have all done this.

Jan ? Your mate ?
55-60’?

Congratulations @Mungo2 brilliant stuff :muscle::+1:…and this is absolutely the right forum for your sport reports. You train hard and get the results, who doesn’t want to hear about that?

I think you would be quite good at this ?!
You have the right mindset ….
It’s not harder than tri or vice versa it’s
” different “

Your in very deep at times and pacing is key.
