She came 3rd
Well done
Brilliant - well done her!
Cracker! Chapeau.
Thanks all, we had to ferry her home for a shower, then get her out the door for her piano lesson.
They did get fish and chips on the home from piano though, which I can’t stand, so I had scrambled egg.
She keeps saying what a difference running in spikes makes. I’ve never tried them, so can’t comment. The girl that came 1st is my mate’s daughter who I wrote about before. (that’s not her in the pic)
Did you get the scrambled egg from the chippy, or make it when you got home? And did you have it with chips, or on toast?
I appreciate it’s not relevant but I’ve never been to a chippy that offered scrambled eggs so wanted to be sure i wasn’t missing out.
And I’ve had several beers so I could be missing something!
keep up, they got them from piano
no. I had to work after the XC whilst Mrs FP did the parent taxi thing. They both went to the chippy on their way back from piano.
I made the scrambled eggs once I’d emerged barefoot from the mines, in the snow.
I’ve not.run in mine for over 10 years but they are amazing. You put your foot down and it just doesn’t slip or slide - then you power on. Like road running but with all the fun of off-road - and no slipping over.
PS. Well done to her, really well done.
Huge congratulations to your LO FP
Haven’t had fish and chips in years…or scrambled eggs saying that
Thanks Anna. We’ve just sent a load of McVities biscuits to LO’s godmother in New Jersey.
Get yourself over for a ‘special visit’
I did the trail race today and it probably went as well as I could have hoped for given current fitness and girth. Actually quite pleased with it.
There was another small change to the route announced at the briefing which avoided a bit that is usually very boggy at the best of times and a struggle to get up\down, but the previously announced change went a bit further than I expected, but still saved 2K and ~250m asc\desc which is usually another muddy tricky section, timewise it was probably 20-25 minutes.
Made sure I was near the start again as the path narrows quite quickly and then goes across a field and small belt of trees that is difficult to overtake, but we were already stretching out by 1K.
There’s then a fairly long climb that has a few muddy patches before reaching the moor. There’s about a 3K path on flags which was about 50% under water, but I’ve been on the same section when they’re icy and treacherous so wet feet was quite a bit better.
After about 8K I seemed to be on my own, nobody about 1K in front and at least 600m behind. I kept going at my own pace then as we turned back we started going into the wind. I could also see someone catching me up and hoped I’d hold him off, on the most exposed bit it felt like I was running on the spot
We then went back down the long muddy bit, I hoped I’d gain some time on my chaser but when I reached the bottom he’d kept about the same pace and then went past me, but he was barely 20!
Just turned into the car park for the finish and felt a couple of spots of rain, by the time I left it was hammering it down so felt a bit sorry for the people still out but I’d just about survived
Legs are a bit tight now and DOMS is probable inbound!
Edit: I’m gonna call this a sprint finish
Well done Jeff. Mighty effort in this weather!
Top work!
Nice work.
Well done @jeffb
Had read the report, but just seen the picture. Heroic effort.
Are we doing '24 triathlon recaps? Did we all have a Brat Summer?
My year was pretty good, perhaps not wrt performance but filled with positive experiences.
Harlech Duathlon early in the season was a bit meh but had kept me ticking over during the later winter months.
The ROC Wales in May was an absolute treat that fell into my lap after a clubmate dropped out a few days before. I had enough fitness to be reasonably competitive & the great weather highlighted the beauty of Eryri.
My main event of the year was the 3 triathlons in 2 & a half days in the Ardeche. Each race had their own vibes & I measured my efforts conservatively enough to enjoy all three. Once again, beautiful surroundings.
I’m still unsure about the Aberdyfi Aquathlon, it’s one of those events I don’t feel I got the best out of myself. I felt I was swim fit enough to perform better than I did on the day & can only think that the sea temp & possibly fuelling let me down.
All in all I should only take positive things away from my races & appreciate the fact that I’m lucky enough to play around like a big kid.
Pretty flat year here. Couple of decent sprint races in January, February and March. Then decommissioned my left hip playing with a surfboard on a sand dune in the desert, put myself out of action for about 6 months.
Just getting back into things now but have clearly taken a bit step down the fitness ladder, especially on the run, & doubt will ever get back to how things were a year ago. Getting soundly beaten right now off people I mght have had a chance against last year.
Need a big ticket race to look forward to get the juices flowing again perhaps. Also a new bike, and ideally a new leg.
The year’s not quite over though, doing a 15km leg of a coast-to-coast relay on Friday. It will be my longest run since March & expect I’ll be limping for a few days after.
Terrible.
One running race in February.
The rest of the year juggled injuries, work, lack of motivation and consistent training on most things non-triathlon.
