Do you need some kind of licence?

Their cake game needs a lot of work. Just cheap biscuits at the moment. I will work on that!

I always fancied a RC model submarine. Like the one in the old Hamlet cigar advert.

RC planes sound like a fun hobby. I take it mini-jet engines don’t feature?

Basically, yes. You don’t have to have a license but to join a club, they will insist on you joining the BMFA, which gives you insurance cover. I have had to take a simple online test to get my user id which is then recognised by the CAA. So I’m now working towards passing my A Test, where you have to show that you can fly a circuit in both directions, complete a figure of 8 and take off and land. Once I’ve got that, then I can fly on my own. There are further licenses for aerobatics etc. Like most hobbies it makes sense to join a club. They have a ‘buddy box’ where an instructor can take over the controls if it goes out of control. My first couple of lessons had me diving the model at the ground and it would have been £200 destroyed without the instructor next to me.
I’m currently struggling with Turn 4, which is the final turn to come into land, flying towards you. Apparently it’s a common problem. I went solo in a glider at uni and found flying those a lot easier!

Oh my god. They are amazing. There are electric ducted fan models which is basically an electric motor powering a fan, but there are actual jet turbines which cost thousands.

What you need is an RC/LDWA collaboration

The drones, not so much if they have GPS as they can be programmed to come back, but basically yes, you have to have them in view at all times. Most sites will also have sticky no fly areas. For example my club’s site borders a football pitch which we are not allowed to overfly at all, when it’s in use. There is also a recycling centre on the far side which we can’t go over. My instructor told the story about one member a couple of years ago, whose model caught fire and then plummeted from 200 feet into the tip. Apparently quite a bit of council H and S forms to fill in, for that one.

I wasn’t expecting quite so much interest from you all!!

DCR has posted some reviews of drones that follow you when running or cycling hasn’t he?

some of those drones that follow you can produce amazing videos when following MTBers or skiers downhill

WT are now using drones to follow swims at major events to check on swim behaviour from above - they give a view you don’t get from a boat. I was Chief Drone TO at World Champs in Pontevedra last year.

And some of the trail/fell runs

Avicraft are just down the road from me and it’s difficult to avoid their activities. I first saw them flying in the park (Norman Park) back in the 80s. My granddad bought me a Phoenix 100 glider that’s still half built in my parents loft. I totally intend to build one some day and 10% of the reason I want a workshop/shed area.

Hmm, things aren’t going to well so far :joy:

Messed up Sub 5 last week and was unlikely yesterday even if the weather had been dry, not done with this yet though…

The half in Denmark wasn’t a sub 90 course for me but haven’t given up on this yet, either.

Been close on the 5K, about 15 seconds away but not done any 10k’s yet, there’s a few coming up in the next few months.

Tokyo hasn’t opened yet and I’ve bumped Barca until next year. I did get to America & Denmark. Part-time probably isn’t happening this year but I promise I’m very close to getting rid of the Mondeo!!

Makes it sound like a poor year so far but I have had a few races I’ve been pleased with but usually lower key races, a couple of the trail ones. The Canyons in California was a tough day and although the time wasn’t what I wanted I was fairly pleased overall.

So, still to play for with just over 5 months left!

Got the pros in… this might finally be the year :crossed_fingers:t2:

They have been at it all day & haven’t actually got to roof height yet. It’s a pig of a job. We are terraced and street fronting, all the scaffolding has to come through the house. Play resumes tomorrow :crossed_fingers:t2:

Looks nice… leave it like that, bit of a sheet over the top, job done.

er yes, except they haven’t got to the leaky bit yet :see_no_evil_monkey:

So not sure a sheet would work although agree it would be aesthetically more soothing

Ladies and gentlemen…

Chimney repointed. Tree removed from stack. Broken tiles replaced. Valley fixed. Redundant ariels and dishes removed.

Just need a bit of rain now & if things stay dry I’m calling it … :crossed_fingers:t2::crossed_fingers:t2:

The question is, what time do next if this recurring goal finally crossed off the ever-list :man_shrugging:t2:
