You’ll be too be busy not thinking about a toilet to worry about the rivers
Well I had a thoroughly miserable day at Big Mud. My toe was hurting after about 20km, I felt quite sick and the energy just drained from me.
The conditions underfoot were awful, worse than last year and worse that Arundel.
The weather was dry for the first 4hrs but the wind was fierce and cold, then the rain came as the wind got stronger!
My time was a disaster, 7hr30 Over 1hr20mins slower than last year. Not DFL but pretty bloody close. Did not enjoy at all TBH
Well done, tough conditions and sometimes it’s about survival!
Decent run for Buzz as well, even if he didn’t think so
It was grim today.
Fair play for getting it done.
Well done. There’s plenty of us who’d have thrown the towel in for sure. I love how you just get on with it and somehow smile at the end (I guess because it’s over!). Well done once again.
That looks horrible !
Well done FP
Well done @FatPom.
Sometimes, the finish line is enough.
Well done for grinding it out - mental toughness training in spades
Cheers mate. How did you go?
Edit: I thought it was your 44km race today but looks like I was wrong.
Well done for getting it done!
You’ll reap the benefits down the road!
Well done FP, you are as tough as they come my friend and you do always smile at the end
Yep - next Saturday
Well done @FatPom No shame in that performance at all and to finish in those conditions is a win.
Thanks All.
I think the main problem with these events for me, is that when they go relatively well, it’s still hurts but I feel like I’m making progress and managing things.
When they go badly though, absolutely everything screams in pain and it mostly starts with my back or the tender feet issue I’ve mentioned before and I just go backwards at a rate of knots.
it’s these races where I just endlessly question why I do them.
If they were easy then every woman/man and has dog would be doing them
We do then because they are hard
…and we have a screw loose somewhere
For me it’s not about wanting them easy but in races, my back situation just makes it extra hard and that’s when everything seems to head downhill.
Well done for gritting it out - brilliant effort.
Good luck today @tunster
Ramadan race series got underway today with a swim run aquathlon
Here’s our team, at least those who managed to get there in time for the team photo - I didn’t - had to hare across from work and arrived 10 minutes after the announced start time, but luckily things were behind schedule. Just about had time to wrestle the wet suit on and we were off.
The Irish guys “Shamrock Shufflers” are definitely the team to beat this year with 4 athletes in the top 5 this evening.
Think the local Qatari team has the best name though: “Fasting and Furious”
I entered the local half marathon for tomorrow but somewhat bad prep since, I knew I was giving blood but didn’t expect the leg to have a moan on Friday and a bit of an upset stomach shall we say
So, current plan is a bit like the half in January, I’ll start fairly steady and if things are going alright I’ll see if I can increase the pace around halfway.
The other bonus is due to the course layout if the leg is playing up there’s an easy bailout option about halfway and 2/3rds.
Try and see if I can finish about 1:37 if it doesn’t go wrong!
