2025 Races

Lac des Sapins Tri for me today, 1500m, 48km/800m & a trail 10km/160m

Chaotic start with 500+ people starting from a narrow beach & first 90° turn after 100mtrs. Just tried to keep body intact & make sure my head didn’t fall off.
67th overall & 3rd in Cat.

Run to bike was long & a bit ouchy along gravel paths & park grass. Gave feet a wipe, put Tri shoes on to keep feet grit free & ran to mount line.

Not done a lot of cycling so happy to cap effort around 220W.
Lumpy & well marshalled but not closed & some surfaces better than others.
Heavens opened for last 20km of descent & I took it much more conservatively than Pierre, Jean-Claude et al :see_no_evil_monkey::grimacing:
I’m now 99th overall & remarkably still 3rd in Cat.

Run to T2 was more grit & grass so kept shoes on.

The run was much more technical than I was expecting & those ASICS Fujispeed 2 that @buzz posted up earlier in the year were ideal, as they have also been for my SwimRuns :+1:. Anyway, it was 90% off-road with lots of cambers, roots & quite the mud-fest. Loved it, worked into first km, then started picking people off & kept shape until the end.
Finished 73rd overall & ran myself into first in Cat

None of you medal tat here, honey & green tea :pinched_fingers:

Oh and while waiting for MrsB at the finish I spotted a mate from Tetbury. He and 2 other mates from Ciren raced it too. We’re all bus wankers and now heading for the pub

Sorry @Bob & @jeffb but the idea of you guys doing not one, but two false sprint finishes has me grinning inanely…I’ve had to explain myself to the wifey

At least @jeffb managed to sprint the actual finish. I just stared at it for 20 minutes as we shuffled forwards

Nice one, doon, Bob and Mrs Bob :+1:

Haha, I honestly battered myself for what I thought was the finish I couldn’t muster anything for the next two and was trying not to be sick  :joy: I saw someone on his hands and knees Ironman style with about 300m to go.

I did think the finish and trip back would be a nightmare so I pretty much went straight through, got my bag which was first truck then got the bus into town and decided to pay for the train. Got my ticket and there was a train ready when I got downstairs  even got a seat.

I’ve seen a few comments that people enjoyed it but the finish was chaotic, the second field looked big enough.

Guess there’s nothing they can do about conditions and thought there was plenty of water stations, but obviously not sure about later on.

Quite some sprint according to your Strava 400m split. And that is only your 3rd best 400, must have some serious speed there.

Haha, false alert, that was my Garmin having a stroke in the tunnel, offered me PB’s for 1k and 1mile.

I knew it was out after that and partly explains the wrong finish :joy:

Did I say 3 hours waiting for the bus? Well, that was ok until the driver got pissed off with sitting in traffic and instead of driving us back to Copenhagen dumped us at the train station and told us to get off. The train station was carnage. Delayed and cancelled trains and 20k people fighting to get onto the platform and onto trains. We’ve just finally got back to Copenhagen nearly 7 hours after we finished. No water or food in that time. It was a fun race to do but the organisation was worse than any public event I’ve attended. It may have been better for the fast earlier folks but later it was just horrendous.

Oh and an official time of 2:08 so nearly 15 minutes queuing to cross the finish line.

Crikey, seen a few people in town earlier and wasn’t sure if they’d been waiting or gone for food/drinks etc.

Trying to cram 40k people in that finish area along with spectators was bonkers for a race so short.

Shame as other things went alright I thought, although the start was delayed 15 minutes.

I crossed the start line more than an hour after they opened the pen, even that was a drag :slightly_smiling_face:

They called in the Police to control the crowd at the train station. The staff were completely overwhelmed and there was a couple of incidents with people being pushed down between the platform and the train in the crush. Absolutely bonkers.

So I sort of booked myself on a 50km trail race on the Jurassic Coast last week as a bit of a f**k it, why not. Let’s give the whole running thing a bit of a boost and see what happens. Kept it super quiet, with my mate the RD even putting my name on the tracker as Pierre Flegere! :joy: :joy:

This year it was a smudge under 49km and about 1700m elevation.

Had no plan other than to just see how the body responds and see how long I last before I blow up. Honestly didn’t care if I did 6 hours or 10…

But then I got on the start line! :smiling_face_with_horns:

Spent the first half managing my body, fluids, calories etc as it was pretty hot. Nice sea breeze when you were on the tops, but all the valleys were baking, especially the ‘undercliffs’ section out of Lyme Regis. Oppressive and humid.

Anyway, long story short. Ended up swapping positions with 3 other guys (we were 2nd to 5th)for the first 23km or so, but then myself and another seemingly pulled away from the other two.

He stopped at the top of the big hill before Sidmouth with his crew (so that’s how he was so quick through the Beer aid station!). Race mode took over and I hammered it down the 1.5km (steep!) Hill into town. Burned through the aid station as fast as I could, whilst still picking up what I needed. I left just as he appeared behind me.

Spent the next, I dunno, 2.5 hrs being hunted by this fella. Was kinda stressful constantly worrying where he was despite ‘not racing’. I pushed on up Peak Hill to get a gap, which worked, but the cramps started threatening with those mini twitches and pulses that you get. Quads, hammies, calves. They were to be relentless for the next 2 hours! :grimacing:

Somehow managed to hold him off. I had to run away from my kids when they popped up unexpectedly on Exmouth seafront though as I knew he was somewhere near, and there was only 1.5km to go. And I worked bloody hard for that 2nd place! Bad dad of the year! :joy:

Anyway, somehow finished in about 5.15 and 2nd overall! :2nd_place_medal:

Getting the usual ‘sandbag’ stick off all my mates now! :joy:

However! Justification incoming. I looked back and in the past 9 months (since North Coast 100) I’ve averaged 10 km per week running. One 25km back in Jan and one 17km a couple of weeks ago that set the idea in my head!

Legs went ballistic when I stopped. Couldn’t walk over for the photo as they were cramping like mad! Luckily a new lad who’s running with our crew was there as he’s, helpfully, an osteo. So a nice massage helped ease things out a bit!

Super chuffed with that. But it’s not doing a very good job of teaching me to train properly! :joy: :joy: :joy:

Haha. Cheers fellas.

I mean, don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t tend to attract big, deep, strong fields or anything. But you can only race what’s in front of you eh! And I’m happy to take that!
