It was nearly 10 years ago so guessing it’s the same route, can’t remember what it was called, just remember a long grind rather than something short and savage.
Ah I thought the Brutal was down in South Wales.
Anyway I rode Pen-y-Pas last summer and it was pretty easy compared to anything like the Lakes or Yorkshire climbs.
A man of your power would be totally fine on a TT bike ![]()
Looks like it, my brutal says 93k with ~1400m ascent, PYP took about 6 minutes.
Ah, I assumed it was just two laps
that extra northern section looks surprisingly flat too
Is it marathon weekend @buzz ?
Sure is
Good luck, sub 3 ![]()
I cant remember who to look for on strava, think it was an open account around the time of smack down 2025, otherwise I would have a good guess. However the last info on here was it would be very close to 3 hours (just over a minute or two, if training has been good in the last few weeks 3 hr is on but no pressure.)
Good point, I had forgotten the incoming heat. ![]()
I was on for a solid 3h24m last year (Manchester) maybe a bit better but the heat cost me 5 minutes maybe a touch more.
3hr 5m - 3hr 12m would be a very good result but I wouldn’t be surprised outside that range, although maybe the lower end if its not too hot.
Most of my targets are looking quite unlikely now and I’m close to accepting the season isn’t really happening, I’m not trying to get sympathy here!
I’ve only done a few races, the ones on holiday and a TT, and the holiday ones were mostly a bit of fun until I hurt my shoulder ![]()
I have until about Wednesday to decide whether to change the race in Versailles, unfortunately as it is only a 70.3 I can’t defer until next year. The only races left are Belgrade, Tallinn and a few in the ME. They’re all August onwards so would be in my next holiday year at work which will cause a problem. And more cost, unless I just do a long weekend race but I still fancy the race venue.
My shoulder is improving and I’m tempted to try a few lengths at the pool. I’m also seeing someone on Tuesday as my usual physio is away ATM. But going from 0 to 1.9K in a few weeks won’t be fun despite the arm cardio stuff I’ve been doing. It’s more whether it causes pain or aggravates it. And I’m away for nearly a week with the GF so no swimming then either.
On top of this the knee keeps flaring up, I’ve done a couple of runs up to 21k with no real problems, then out of the blue it starts moaning again, it’s just on the inside. The tendon feels nearly better, I’m not sure if it’s the cartilage or bursa and my cycling injuries book also suggests a few other things that seem possible. I’m hoping raising the seat helps a bit as I’m sure that has had an impact recently.
So, other than TT’s I daren’t enter anything else and feeling nervous even about Barcelona, I don’t fancy another 5 hour marathon ![]()
At the moment I’m pinning my hopes on the ADH duathlon if only for the bike leg.
Annoying as I thought my running was slowly improving again. Maybe I can do a few running races in the last few months if things do settle down.
Good luck, those Trek’s were pretty iconic. At least you won’t be thirsty with all that storage ![]()
Don’t think there’s any live tracking for Edinburgh marathon!
It’s pretty poor isn’t it? Are they going to wait for everyone to finish before publishing results?
Yeah, website says tracking is only if they’re using Strava beacon etc ![]()
Not what you expect from a major marathon but they did try and stop publishing them altogether a few years ago.
For a ride to work you mean
Hope you had a good one or have a good one, confused about timelines.
Results are up @jeffb
Probably just as well, it would have been almost as painful for you as it was for me.
Not my day, quads went tight early on, I could suffer on them but I guess the heat got to me in the end. Whether pulling the plug earlier on any sort of time would have changed things I don’t know
But 3h20 for my debut in M55 category (as of today)
