3 weeks until the 70.3 outside of Paris today and got the athlete guide! Probably good that it isn’t this weekend with the heatwave going on. Course looks a bit meh, swim is like a big W in the lake, but it’s not very big and it could get sketchy if people can’t swim in a straight line and start coming head on! It’s also not very deep and wondering if it will be non-wetsuit.
Bike looks nice, might see if I can ride it a few days before. But the run is a twisty 3 lap affair with quite a few dead turns.
Feeling pretty undertrained for it, wasting today but going swimming very soon with the intention of doing at least 1.6k and aiming to get into the lake next weekend as it should be a bit warmer.
Almost dreading the run, really don’t know how the knee will be, I know I can just about run that far but my longest recent runs have been about 14k.
At least I won’t be pressuring myself for any particular time like Sub-5 so will try and pace myself at the start of the run.
I’m still thinking of doing a race the Sunday before near Luton, going to make a decision soon.
Better stop wasting my Sunday and go and do something!
Good day out at Stewartby Tri in Bedford today and great turn out from the club. More had done the sprint distance and had headed off for Father’s Day stuff.
Will think about a proper race report once later.
Rating myself
Swim 2/10 terrible speed in OW and clear goggles meant sighting was difficult. 40 mins
Bike 8/10 4 laps between two roundabouts meant TT position really helps. 65 mins
Run 6/10 Didn’t have the legs and heat and humidity was sapping. 52mins
Transitions 9/10 some of my fastest ever. Pleased with how that went.
Yes, I was. I had clear goggles too, which made it a bit tricky heading back on 1st and 2nd lap. Super quick bike course…I averaged 24.7mph. I was a bit worried about it being busy as it was a 4 lapper with sprint on at the same time, but it wasn’t too bad. Run was nice and simple out and back. I’ve done 3 ATW events this year, they organise good race, nothing too flash, show up, race, head home
I’ve got my eye on the ATW in a fortnight, would probably just be the standard distance, I’m guessing you can register and rack your bike on race morning? Looks like it in the notes online.
I was really happy with around 34kmh which is a decent stint for me. Lots of time in the bars but an opportunity to stretch at the turns. Great to he able to spot people and workout if you’re closing or not.
lake swim, 4 dead turns on each lap of the (plus a cheeky 90 degree turn) but never feels crowded as it’s just straight lines, run just weaves on the surrounding roads
I did the midnight man a couple of years ago, which I am sure is the same course. Nice swim. The bike is a little dull but flat and completely closed roads, so could be fast. Run is good.
A nice event and also very good value; would definitely recommend.
