Chicago marathon with Mrs T.

Loved it - my favourite of the majors and a fantastic city judging by what I have seen of it so far.

Proper hot day which is most unusual for Chicago at this time of year.

Moving time 4:43 but chip time 5:15 as Mrs T”s Crohn’s disease playing up a lot after 20km which necessitated a lot of pit stops (3 small bowel resections and energy drinks are not a good combo) but she battled on through - very proud of her

Great stuff, it was cold and wet when I did it  I liked the city though, going on the L train

Well done Mrs T, lovely to see you guys sharing such a big day out…& the training leading up to it.

Nice one @tunster / Mrs T

I spent some time at Cook County Hospital in Chicago as a student in 1997. Went in on the L. It was a bit rough back then, the area west of the hospital with the big housing projects. There were stories of people taking pot shots at the L train as it went past, maybe urban myth.

Hopefully nothing like that now!

Is Mrs T’s triathlon still a thing? I’m guessing no

Went to Chicago once on a business trip in the late 70s - and stayed at what was then called the Playboy Hotel owned by Hugh Hefner. Was late in and early morning start do didn’t get to really see the “entertainment”

I’ve been to Chicago on a works trip, It was the coldest I’ve experienced in my life.

There was a micro brewery about a 2 minute walk from the hotel, we set off walking but had to turn back & get a taxis. Never experienced anything like it, cold + the wind chill.

Entered Big Night Out trail race again, it’s a 23km loop start/finish at the WADAC track. It’s a fun race, lots of fairy lights and glow sticks.
Only issue this year is that it clashed with NC55, which is probably a bit beyond me right now. I need some confidence inspiring building blocks.

Saying it clashes isn’t quite accurate. I knew NC110/55 had moved to Nov but I had not realised it had moved to Sat/Sun. I don’t like a Sunday race at the best of times, but travelling to one that will end late was a tipping point.
@gingerbongo , are you able to share the reason for the day move?

Cheers all - went for quick trot this morning and saw the sun coming up over the lake - still very humid

I knew the lakes were big but the scale of them when you come in on the plane and from the lake shore is amazing

Might be wrong, but pretty sure it’s down to availability of the aid station locations. Think he’s got a new one in Barnstaple this year as the rugby club have been more difficult over the last few years.

Cool one up at the cricket club in Lynton as well that started last year.

Oh I see. The Nov timing makes it a better fit for those training for Arc as well, not so far out now. It’s a shame I’ll miss it, but need to build properly. Absolutely want to support CSW races where I can though. :+1:t2:

I still count the NC110km as the one race I’d really like to finish. 0/3 so far :man_facepalming:t2: :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Just catching up, so…sorry for bringing it back up but yeah the opposite of stoked for you. Have they offered free transfer to another race? Cascais was a nice one but missed that now I think.

A bitch after a years training to be sure.
