As this year’s goal has past, I’m starting to plan for next year, as I do need something to have as a bit of a focus which is not Frankfurt

Has anyone done IM Sweden?

Looks lovely.

Mid August, so perfect timing for me a teacher.
Flat bike and run.

I haven’t but a friend’s brother has, said it’s a lovely course and venue but not much accommodation locally so you’d need to book early.

Copenhagen shouldn’t be an inferno but might not fit your schedule?

I wish I had entered Copenhagen (it sold out fast) instead of Barcelona.

With Sweden I was thinking about splashing some dosh with Nirvana

Copenhagen is the same weekend, so will add it to the list

Why do I think this was the race that went round an industrial estate

Continually hear good things about Copenhagen :+1:

Sweden or Copenhagen?

I know Copenhagen starts slightly out of town but easy to get to, it’s salt water swim but protected so won’t be many waves.

I thought the bike went rural.

I know MrME has done it a few times and chickenboy

@pacha as well I think (Copenhagen that is).

Pretty sure it scores very highly on athlete satisfaction every time too. Also pretty easy to get in and out of.

Kalmar looks good, but don’t know so much about the logistics side of things.

Family friend did her first at Copenhagen 2 yrs ago and raved about it, as did her family that went to watch, very spectator friendly apparently. Crazy expensive though, was the feedback.

It isn’t cheap in Copenhagen but I didn’t think it was much worse than London etc, and cheaper than Switzerland.

I think the fact that it’s in school holidays adds to the cost. Mrs FP was keen for me to do it because ’ we can all go’.

She deftly sidestepped my point about whether I actually wanted to do another IM. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I loved Copenhagen but I am biased as I love the place. Swim is as described above, easy peasy.

The bike goes out through town then the loop around the North of the island is rural and a couple of rollers. Most of the surface is good with one poor section where you see loads of dispatched bottles. The run back into town is rapid.

Run is through the city and the support was great.

I’ve done both Copenhagen (when it was a Challenge race) and Kalmar. Both are great races. Logistics for Kalmar are easier as it is all in the same place, but getting there is a bit more involved. I preferred the swim at Kalmar, it is much more open. Bike courses are similar, mostly flat with a few rollers. Run courses were both good too.

On balance I prefer Kalmar, being a small town, the race really takes over the whole place and the locals all get behind it, the support in town was amazing. Support in Copenhagen was good, but the race is just one f the hundred other things going on in the city, though it was quite fun running past stag/hen dos and wedding parties.

That’s kind of my thinking, as it’s somewhere I wouldn’t go normally, where as Copenhagen is more of a tourist destination

Do the IM Viking double header and sing up for both. It’s what TC would do, as a normal weekend.

I officially retired from IM after Nice last year. I’ve been there, done it, got more teeshirts than I know what to do with. IM is way too expensive, it had also become routine, the gloss and buzz around the events just didn’t do it for me anymore

… so why am I now thinking about which event I need to do next year (I age up to 55-59) in order to KQ in 2027

Let me know which one you decide so I can avoid you and finish 1 position higher :joy:

Not that I’ve got any plans! Except Lanza but just about convinced myself it’s not a good idea :joy:
