2027 Races

As the system has changed, you need to find a course that plays to your strengths, but also might make others suffer.

It’s not about places anymore, it’s about time.

Ha ha ha ha. I retired after Nice too. Come and join me in Lanza next year. That event was always on my bucket list - that’s my excuse anyways.

I also age up next year 50-54

Can’t pretend Kona 2027 hasn’t crossed my mind :winking_face_with_tongue::face_with_peeking_eye:

It is a good idea @jeffb

Haha, see the Lanza thread! Fruity wants to go but not sure it works for Adam due to holidays.

Definitely not happening for me in 2027 Jeff :joy:

1% chance I look to punish myself with it in 2028 as a M55 present if still alive

But you need to be actually fit to do lanza

@Mr-me i better sign up, I’ve still got your gloves, is that enough of an excuse?

Yes, I will definitely need those exact gloves to complete Lanza so I’m afraid you’ll need to be there :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: you can tell your family it was out of your control

Single day Kona to aim for as well!

I’m really flip-flopping on Lanza, on one hand it is an itch I’ve always wanted to scratch even if it is just an easy wander round. I’m also thinking that it’s barely 6 months after Barca this year, albeit winter so might be able to retain some of the fitness and have a short build around March-April.

But, the training for Barca is getting tougher for the longer sessions and I’m still uncomfortable at running any distance so don’t want to prolong my niggles! Also depends on whether I get into Tokyo or London.

Going to get Barcelona out of the way first.

I’ve narrowed it down to Austria or Lanza. I know Lanza attracts a strong field, however, with the new KQ process does it matter as much as it used to?

I don’t think so, you’ll get the multiplier for M55 which should help you, if you can get your swim down 10 minutes I doubt it will make much difference TBH, but I still think you’ll be needing top 4 in M55 at least, but maybe people won’t have the money to accept a slot.

I did Lanza in 2021 in 10:45, winning time this year in AG55-59 was 11:29. Was it very windy this year? Is bike course harder?

In 2021 I had a terrible swim, solid bike and incredible run. If I get time to train I think I could do a faster swim, bike will be at least 15 mins slower and run will also be 15 mins slower, but still believe I could be a podium contender

I am probably going to stick to halves, or shorter, next year. Likely do an Outlaw or two, a local(ish) one and maybe Cascais 70.3.

I think I’ve got one more IM in me. Not sure what year it’ll be, but I’d like to have one proper go.

I’d like to do Copenhagen or Kalmar and see how quick I can go on a flatter course. But of course there’s the cost and that’s going to put it years down the road.

My eldest also has a bet with me to race IM Wales when I’m almost 50 and she’s 18. We’ll see if that survives the next 8 years of teenage anxt and mentality! :joy:

Two of my friends did it this year. Said it wasn’t too windy. However, seems to have been an insanely competitive field. They are both (extremely) good and came 8th and 11th in 40-44.

Did you see that the overall winner was 45-49 and crossed the line in 8.47? WTAF!!!

I’ll be in 50-54 next year but even in that AG the top 3 went 9.54, 9.59 and 10.10.:exploding_head: What are they all taking these days???

I’ve got a lot of work to do between now and then to be even vaguely competetive despite being youngest in my AG.

Still - I’ve always wanted to do Lanza. It’s just training through the North East winter that I’ve got to get my head around.

I’ll probably do the same.

Might do an Olympic as Ive never done one.

This was always my blocker, be lucky to get in about one O\W swim if there’s a decent heatwave in late April. Long rides would be in March\April in reality so mixed conditions but mostly not icy or utter misery like that.

I think going from our cold to mid 20’s would be the biggest shocker, I could possibly blag a go in the heat chamber at work though.

Run I don’t mind through the winter.

Bike might get lucky smashing some general fitness on trainerroad through the worst of winter, then specific long stuff through March April which recent years have been warm and dry much earlier:crossed_fingers:
