5Ks in 2021/22/23 - How Low Can You Go?

Way beyond the bandstand, it’s about half way between the half mile tree and the hawker centre river entrance, but yeah get the bandstand and keep going for about 1km.

Well based on that track session, I’m not going very low. :joy:

22:06 is my best so far this year, on a lumpy 3 lapper course, so reckon I could get a chunk closer to 20 mins at my local parkrun which is a lot flatter.

All my parkruns so far since their return have been done either with my 8yr old or a guy from work so all been around 30 mins which is a nice pleasant pace to run them at!

I went through 5K at the parkrun in 19:35 a couple of weeks ago, final time was just over but it was over 100M long, not just my watch.

For now I’ll take that, not sure I’ll improve it for a week or two as the course I’m doing this week is a bit twisty I think.

Fake news surely, no parkrun actually starts at 9am - where was the thank yous and shout outs to the newbies and Maud doing her 100th?

Suspect Covid has put paid to the race director thinking they’re Jimmy Tarbuck at the variety show 15 minute pre race speech.

Ours was a 30 second ‘watch out for shingle, respect other users….GO!!’

18.50 for me… pancake flat seafront out and back with zero wind in Vaporfly 4%. Not much more to squeeze in terms of perfect conditions except possibly 1kg of easy body fat. So I’m going to have to train as I can’t give up beer.
Not bad though really considering my training has been all about THE GAINZZZ this year :joy:

19:13 for me this morning.
18:58 is my PB on what is a slow course.

4th overall though, so I’m taking it!

Incorrect, I was at Oldham and he definitely thought he was Jimmy Tarbuck :joy:

He was really good actually, very enthusiastic!

Got into a sprint finish at local parkrun for 2nd/3rd place. The other young lad had gone off too fast, I caught him at 4km, but he managed to come back. We were both stubborn buggers, but I reckon I have had 30 years more practice at being stubborn, and just about managed to grit the teeth and hold him off.

The last bit is flat and super fast airfield runway, which feels amazing underfoot because most of the rest is grass and mud.

Apparently the only parkrun in the country that crosses a live runway :airplane::scream:

Despite being 51 I still can’t tie my shoe laces so had to stop and do one

Just realised I might be doing that one next week, you can destroy me, but should be helpful for this thread given how fast it is.

Nah, keep telling everyone it’s slow. Better for the ego.

To be fair, the wind can ruin it.

Posted on the sub 17 thread but 17:02 for the club 5km tonight. Took my foot off the gas once I knew I was in for the win but hadn’t factored in the last climb before the finish :man_facepalming:

The wind didn’t ruin it, it was good conditions, although it wasn’t an easterly to help you head home.

I only made it with 10seconds to spare, and was therefore slow for the sprint to the turn, but then I ran properly for the first km, but felt crap so didn’t the rest, will look poor.

Last minute I’d got a group of 3 behind me, so I did speed up until the finish to pace them in, I should’ve gone harder as they all just missed 20, hope it didn’t matter to them, 20:02 for me, but probably a 3:40,4:10*3,3:50 type pacing.
