Aero on a budget

Any first hand reviews/issues with the Elite Crono CX ?

I’ve found a cage for £26 and a replacement bottle for £10 (cheaper than any of the ‘package’ deals). That’s probably as much as i want to spend on a water bottle holder! (and i if do end up getting a TT bike in the future, hopefully this can just be ported over).

I’m thinking of going with this (500ml) on the downtube, with gels/energy and then a BTS for water and a spares bottle (spares bottle strapped in for security).

UPDATE - just found a bottle/cage package for £25 a Halfords. even better value.

Yeah I think a lot of us have it.

Hold fire. Merlin usually sell it for £18/19 iirc

Did just check and it’s out of stock though

Yeah annoyingly i had them in my bookmarked faves. £17.99 but out of stock.

On Halfords for £25 though which isn’t too bad - should be able to pick up at store as well, so no postage.I’m thinking good father’s day territory

Stupid thing not available in my area.

No rush … i’ll keep my eye on stock and wait for somewhere to sell the package for under £30 over the next month or so.

Yeah, I have had them for some time. They’re better than a round one for sure

Are these the ones that reduce the cda of most frames? People use them empty on down tube and seat tube to improve the aerodynamics of the bike?

Yep - see if you can find the XL version

Well, apparently (according to an earlier link) they do not!

Fair enough. Just had a vague recollection of some velodrome testing suggested this may be the case.

Interestingly it looks like Ganna has a standard bottle on his tt bike today.

No other bottles are UCI legal

Ah Ok. :+1:t3:

Aero bottles were being used, Cavagna had one amongst others.

So the GP5000s are on - no drama there!

Pi55ing latex tubes. So got the vittoria ones - and was hopeful they’d fit.
41mm front wheel and disc rear.

So the 48mm valve just pops out enough on the front - but I cant get the track pump on it without an extender. Hey ho.

Disc - track pump does not fit. Prev valve was 42mm I think- @rse.

Reckon I can carry it as a spare as it’ll work with Co2 inflator.

So now need to try and find a smaller length valve for the rear - only one I can find is silca at £18 a pop :open_mouth:

Are they removable valves?

Valve core is removeable… as I realised when I unscrewed the valve extender and it fired off the valve core round the garage.
I have 2 types of extender… but both seem to sit on top of the current valve (of which I dont like leaving either on as it means the valve is open).

I assume I’m missing something here - so enlighten me

I think I’ve misunderstood

The rear valve is 41mm, which is too large for your track pump.
So a valve extender would just make it larger.

Is that right?

Both of the latex valves are 48mm.

Current rear tube is 41mm.

So I cant fit the latex in AND still use my track pump (nor can I hack off the end like someone did recently).

So I need a shorter valve for the rear.

Gotcha!
Do you not have a crack pipe adapter for the disc?

Not yet 🤦
