It was a lot easier before I switched to latex. I just used to use Conti Race light 28 tubes, and had those in the necessary range of long and short valve stem lengths. But as you are finding, latex tubes seem to have a lot less variety.

Yes, clincher and use co2. But that’s what I carry all the time anyway. You can by the co2 off ebay for pretty cheap. I used to carry a mini pump, but the first time I saw someone inflate a flat on a group ride in 2s using co2, I was never going back to spending minutes and loads of energy pumping up a tyre again
As it has a trigger, etc, it just makes it a bit easier. And the plastic tube stops the problem of the co2 cannister going ice cold as soon as you start to inflate.

It’s smaller to fit in a spares kit, and also is sleek enough to still work with my narrow disk opening. But you need to remember to get a little foam wrap for the cannister, otherwise your hand is getting stuck to it!
Nice, never heard of that tactic. You can confirm from experience that it insulates from the cold enough to work? If so, then that’s certainly easier and something you can just prep the cannisters with.
I like the idea of the nut. I just have my co2 in my spares bottle (BTS). I tried using the built in screw bits that are on my BTS mount, but as you say, I lost them every time I tried as they just unscrewed
Yeah I just added this to allow me. I normally carried it in the spares bottle - but wanted 2 after previous mishap.
Only 1 side seems to unscrew which seemed weird. The nut won’t go far down, but seems solid - I’m hoping things would start to rattle by that point if its worked its way loose.
For a long course race, I think I’d have at least 3 in my spares bottle. My race would be over, but with all the money and time investment, I’d want to finish. I even stick another tube and co2 in special needs, just in case I’ve had a nightmare in the first half of the bike.

The benefit of the race light tubes is they are very small when new, so take up no space. The third tube would be elastic banded under the saddle for emergencies. One of those tube is short valve, the other is long. The third would be short with an over the top extender on it so it can service both

Co2 infalters- make sure you get one that pushes on not screws on. Screw on will almost certainly mean you unscrew the valve core when it freezes to the chuck and try to remove it and then you are royally f*cked.
Whatever you use, don’t let the race be the first time you use it.
If you have used some of a cartridge don’t expect there to still be some air in it next time you come to it - bin it.
