Aero on a budget

May as well stick this on here;

What are the best 40-60mm rim brake wheels for £1-£1.5k for posing around on the road bike?

Zipp no longer make rim brake wheel sets, and I can’t find a matching older model in stock :cry:

Been looking at;

Mavic Cosmic Pro Carbon SL UST
Shimano Dura-Ace C50 (alloy brake track is a plus here!)
DT Swiss Di-Cut Arc something or other

Any others I should be looking at?

I’m lusting after the NSW copies offered by Wheersmith:

Red Hope hubs. Mint. I might treat myself next Spring. Summer wheels purely for posing purposes.

(I have no affiliation nor have I heard any reviews.)

WOAH!
So a Zipp copy then?
Or are they actual Zipp rims?

ETA: Just re-read your post :see_no_evil:

Aero coach AEOX?

If I ever spend serious money on wheels again I always thought they looked v good (performance and bang for buck)

I wouldn’t have an issue personally with them being copies. He’s a reputable wheel builder with a great reputation and wouldn’t build up a wheel if rims were inferior. I doubt they’re any worse than cheap carbon rims like Hunt and Prime etc.

That’s a mean looking machine.
Rim brakes, too!

Hed alloy brake wheels on sigma sport. You can get a 6/9+ set or a 6/6 set for £1.4k. Solid, fast, versatile, not-too-heavy wheels with good alloy braking for UK roads. If you’re only running butyl tubes then you can get tubes with long valves which will fit the 6/6. If latex then you’ll need extenders whether you go for the 6/6 or the 6/9+.

Love my HED jet 6s

My rear disc is a Parcours and wouldn’t hesitate getting a set of their wheels either

@stenard The V2 foam is now in and they’re posting me a set this week. This one is velcro backed so removable to get to the bolts underneath. It may be worth emailing them to see if they’ll send you some.

So I finally got round to dropping the stem underneath the spacers and on first look it’s a big improvement in body position. Will try get a photo/video later to compare it to before. If I’m going to keep it like this then I’ll need to;

  1. Sort out the steerer - how easy is it to do or is it a LBS job?
  2. Figure out where the junction box can go
  3. Get a stem and decide if I need this one 120mm or a slightly longer one 130mm - this one is borrowed off a clubmate. Are there reasonably priced stems which can hide the junction box? Do aero stems make much of a difference over normal ones?
