Aerobic 10km challenge

Ironically… whilst I’ve struggled to slow the pace down; I was advised to do shorter steps :weary:

Happy to give it a go tho.

I deffo do the same when i’m not in top shape. Like i’m literally reaching out and clawing at the ground for more pace! I’ve always struggled with speed endurance. I’ve never managed to meet my potential.

We need @poets height thread, but I’m guessing you might be a bit shorter than mw22, it’s pretty similar cadence to my NYD effort.

If you just want to slow the pace down, shorter steps are a good way! but that’s not our aim here remember, it’s the fastest 10km without your HR going above some arbitrary number!

180cm :man_shrugging:

haha - twice it’s been needed in one day. But yes, that’s a fair point.

I’m a short arse at about 174cm. 5k would be run at about 190-192 normally, maybe even quicker when i’m proper fit.

I think I’ve had a look at this before, but Just had a look now…

flippin giants … 167spm?!

You can see how those cheating shoes work for you, they boost your stride rate!

i’ve always wondered how fast those things could go flat out.

Even on 1 min reps Im not close to that stride.

1.19 a dodgy one when watch froze

Stride length?
My rate is pretty constant at around 167spm.

I had the 4% on for the snowy 5km, but I had to increase turnover and reducer stride length to stop falling over - I run in a “controlled fall” anyhow.

Next% for the quick 10km.
Peg37 (ZoomX) for the aerobic 10km

Gave this ago. Coming off the back of 5 weeks very much reduced training as I was travelling. Then a week with covid and 2 weeks back to 5 days a week running. Used my chest HR for betting results.

Max HR 200, RHR 48, 75% limit 162 HR

10km - 44:30
Avg HR - 162.

Felt like I was running with the handbrake on constantly and couldn’t really open my stride. PB HM 1:20 with wrist HRM was avg 176 for comparison

Another one, didn’t enjoy it today.

02/02 50:12 @ 142 flat course, reasonable conds

27/01 49:37 @ 140bpm / 152bpm MAX, flat course normal miserable January
02/02 42:54 @ 155bpm / 159bpm MAX, Alderley Edge bypass, headwind up, tailwind down

Now I know what to do, it was a lot quicker
My Zone 2 is 145bpm - 158bpm, so I did go over a teensy bit, but I had the Garmin set for 158bpm, so will move it down to 157bpm for the next one.

Could’ve quite easily done another one of them.

Boring dynamics:

164spm and 1.44m stride length for 02/02

Ha ha ha - what @stenard said.

I posted my Excel showing my zones and he said this is zone 2, which for me is 145-158bpm.
I did my first one in Zone 1 :rofl::rofl:

So I went out in my sparkly new Next% and cranked that out.
Got a 10km virtual mob match on Saturday and was going to use that course, so good to see what it’s like (not that I don’t know it like the back of my hand)

You’re dead to me

I think I actually have a bit more scope in my range… tho I expect it to make feck all difference. I dont have magic shoes either.

Stupid challenge
