Sounds like a plan, I’ve got a spare smart plug lying around
To be fair, that’s a pretty smart solution.
I thought it was a daft idea to start with, but I do find myself drawn to the Wahoo smart fan.
And its cheaper than the Dyson come to think of it.
I have the Screwfix one as well. It’s brilliant for the £.
Off to look for Smart plugs now!!
Id love one of those!! Genius idea
I dunno if the ones I got were crap - but I had so little joy. Got some remote ones instead - got multiple plugs connected to one remote; so fires all my fans up in one go.
I think Stennard has the Wahoo fan. I seem to recall him raving about it.
Yeah, its good. Its nice not to have to think. Stick the HRM on and it auto switches on. Start riding and it slowly picks up intensity. Hit an interval and it’ll properly ramp up with your intensity.
I also have a cleva fan for proper intense sessions or zwift races, but that thing is a beast and you need to be able to switch it on mid ride in my opinion. I just have an amazon remote control plug to switch it on/off. They do now do a turbo specific one that comes with a bespoke remote to also change speed, but that’s more expensive. I’ve never had mine on anything other than the lowest setting!
We have smart plugs all through the house. But in my training room I also have the cheap remote ones. I don’t want to be chatting to Google home mid ride, especially with the noise of another fan on already. The little on/off remotes are much easier and just work
How - HOW - do people type stuff into chat when on Zwift?
- I need all my oxygen to go to my legs
- If I lose focus, I’m straight off the back
- Finger is covered in sweat & also rocking backward and forwards, so typing stuff becomes dgbghdghbgxysbm
guess it’s voiced text in some cases
Also I think it’s ego related. I don’t mean typing three or four words on discord in a TT, even I can manage that despite the sweat problem etc. Moreso those nobbers that chat away inanely during group rides and workouts etc. Like. They’re trying to prove how tough they are.
Do you find that ok though? When I got dropped last night on TTT I tried to type something into discord, it took about 4 attempts before it made even the slightest bit of sense

Probably came out like the noises of someone being suffocated, which wasn’t far from the truth tbh
I think a big part is how, what and where you are typing?
My phones on my handlebars - so using it I’m not changing position and my ability to text is no worse than usual. Some will have laptops or full on keyboards at there disposable.
Sweat is a problem tho - in a recent race - sweated onto phone running companion and it sent me to the menu to quit the race. Then trying to use a tracker mouse pad to just close that took me about 3 minutes lol
You can get “smart buttons” too to control things - although I have both buttons and plugs ready to control fans and always use the good old fashioned radio one, only reason to make it smart would be for full speed control.
I use my phone, on a solid wood top next to my bike.
I can only manage short sentences though
I really don’t know!
I’ve been leading one of the groups on the weekly HotChillee hare & hounds event and I usually type the pre-ride instructions and then that’s me done, other than the odd very short message.
During the ride there’s usually someone typing long messages complaining that the pace is too high, they’ve been dropped and the ride leader is an idiot.
I figure that if they’d spent more time thinking about their riding and less time typing messages they’d probably still be in the group ![]()
Wasn’t sure whether to put this here or the Zwift thread.

As cool as it looks, I’m not sure of the benefit of having something exactly like a real bike as your stationery bike. You may as well put your real bike on there in that case.
Do you guys have a dedicated “turbo” bike?
Currently toying with the idea of going down to 2 road bikes. Decent bike for the better weather and the not so decent one for winter. The one not in use would go on the turbo.
