Watched one of the Ukrainian Youtubers yesturday, he was saying there are lots of out of contol fires in Ukraine and particularly in Donbas as the Russians don’t have the means to control them.
They should be aware of sparks and embers flying. We were evacuated twice in Narrabeen because fires were raging on the other side of the lake which was over a 1km wide.
Ironically, in the worst bush fires that area (Terrey Hills) has seen, we were cut off and had to stay put as the only road was needed for emergency services.
We weren’t allowed on the beach or is the surf as the helicopters and Canadair type planes were scooping water. We had no power, just drank water, ate we had and watched the chaos and smoke and getting covered in ash.
It was scary and fascinating all at once.
Suggest you pack your bags ‘just in case’.
Good luck and take care, Paul.
Jorgan always has his go bag backed and by the front door ready to go
He’s swimming away with luggage and family on his back. New category for Fan Dance
Keep an eye out for one of those planes scooping up the water to put the fire out
Like that apocryphal story of a scuba diver found in a burnt out forest.
We had a fire in a field neighbouring our estate, started by yoofs having a BBQ. It makes you wonder how they’ve managed to avoid learning anything and are still able to function.
Nah, he’s got his canoe hidden by the beach for a fast getaway
Can’t say I’m shocked. That would have been an evac situation in Oz. Have they doused down the hotel roof/gutters or anything?
Time to get the marshmallows out at least
Surely it’s still cooler than the outlaw or Frankfurt
Sudden wind direction changes can be the hardest thing about fighting bush fires.
Hotel staff out the back have fire hoses out.
It occured to me!
SOP in Oz is clear gutters, plug them, fill them with water and hose down the roof. Easier on a house than a hotel of course.
Or maybe a pedallo might be a better option for a triathlete. Swap your Assiomos for the standard pedals and you could do a Zwift session while you’re fleeing the fire
