Appetite to race next year - what will events look like?

my longer ride is essentially a bastion loop/gauntlet loop and there and back by some means. For < 50 miles is over toys and back over ide and to star. coming back via cudham is ok as thats a nice long descent and the run into Orpington, turn just before high street by the Tesco and straight into PW, or along the A21 towards Bromley is ok also as theres a bike lane.

Ive considered a Scadbury marathon a few times but it’s a tough loop, no flat at all and especially in winter with the mud. just under 4k so 11 laps should do it. 4 has been my maximum so far

I wasn’t meant to be involved with Hever in September, just the FoE in July. This event was meant to have a GB age group qualifier and the BTF nominate TOs for those (she would have been Chief for the whole weekend) but since that event has gone by the wayside the TO nominated has pulled out (non SE based) and muggins here has stepped in. ho hum. :upside_down_face:

Yeah I went cudham, Brasted, Toys, then reverse part of the Hever route and into TW for my commute rides in 2018, been meaning to do it again with a gauntlet loop this month but my long rides are weds morning turbo at the moment. Maybe weekend after this, on the roadie.:+1:

Apparently Scadbury is used as part of the Chislehurst Marathon, which I hadn’t actually heard of surprisingly, and loads of loops. Although it’s nicer, I prefer running past my house regularly for pit stops and nutrition.

Hmm, just checked my watts in 2018. It’s showing only 160W and 167W in Strava, reckon the target was 190 then and I should be doing 210W now maybe 230W for 90km. Maybe there’s an execution problem as well as total weight.

Estonia looks like its going ahead, both full and half on Sept 5th. Slots are available.

Regarding quarantine it may be possible to travel there and race, this is what IM Estonia had to say on the matter:

“ Yes, accoring to our information you should be able to do that, as there will be an update in the travel restrcitions on Monday.
It should be possible to enter the Estonia from a red country and avoid the 14-day quarantine if you take a PCR test 72h before arrival and immidiately after arrival to Estonia and both of them are negative. You have to stay at your place of accommodation (going out while respecting the quarantine rules is allowed) until the results arrive. You’ll need a certificate in English proving that the test you took before travel was negative. If you are travelling with companions the same rules apply to them as well.”

So will there actually be any physical full distance Ironman events anywhere this year?

I see above possibly Estonia; anything else still going ahead on paper?

Estonia still looks on this weekend, a friend is there now. Think there’s still hope for Portugal?

And a couple of 70.3’s

Although now looks like the government might bend the rules to block Greece because of the islands :rage:

Yeah Sebi has just flown to Estonia after Davos was pulled.

I’m sure they’d find him a slot.

Yeah he did a little update on his Instagram. Speaking of how great they’d been in arranging it, hospitality etc.

Talin is happening this weekend

Yes I have a friend in Estonia, all registered. Said its far more efficient than normal due to extra organisation.

Boston have decided to pause the registration process for next year until they have a better idea if\when it might go ahead.

Not a big surprise and I really don’t expect it to be in April.

Did you see that @stenard

Thanks I had been keeping an eye on 2021 registration timings, as the website had been saying “unknown” for a few weeks.

As you say, it kind of makes sense in all honesty. April is really not that far away in the grand scheme of things

Well looks like Tallinn went ahead OK (so far).
Daniel Baekkagard (sp?) won with Sebi 2nd and Dreitz 3rd.

Interesting that Sebi had tipped DB to be the next (non German) winner of Kona. Probs a few athletes that would want to contest that accolade! :joy:

Looks like the bike at Tallinn is only about 76 miles on the full IM?

Update: does look like the full bike, think my mates tracker is off.

Shame it wasnt televised

Ah ok, well it would be good to have an update!

I would imagine it is a big money spinner for the club and would be happy to forfeit the fee to help out long term, it’d just be nice to know what the plan is.

I agree re the pool though, I’ve lived near a few that have had serious problems in past and have never known one open back up again.

Well looks like this whole buying a bike thing has started to rekindle some fires.

There’s some serious talk amongst a few of my friends about a return to tri next year. To be honest, i think i’m looking forward to it as well. I’ve enjoyed running and ultra running, but i always planned on returning to tri, and i’ll always mix it up between the different sports. They’re broadly similar anyway!

Looking at possible events for next year. The others are quite keen on Immortal Wimbleball, as two of them did IM Wimbleball a couple of times before it droped. It works out time wise for one of the others as well, who is going back to AdH tri next year. Then there’s talk of the Jurassicman.

Not sure if i want to get involved in a full Im or not. I could get through it on low/med training … but do i want to? Not sure. Whereas i think i can fit in the training for a half.

I like the idea of Wimbleball - local, tough. But despite living here i don’t think i’m actually much cop on hills! TBF i’m probably not much good (in a relative sense) on the flat either, but i don’ tnotice it as much as it doesn’t feel so hard!

I quite fancy a return to Cotswolds 113/classic. I liked that race. I guess the question is would i be competitive enough, and would that matter. I don’t have a TT bike (or even a remotely aero road bike) so would that cost me too much on a flat course? I’d be pretty confident on the run if i got into shape. Saying that, i will be way back on the swoim anyway, so maybe it doesn’t matter and i just have to realign to some process goals and just see what comes out of the wash.

That said, who knows if there’ll be anything on next year!!!

A pair of clip-on tri bars will improve the bike leg quite a lot.
