Bike Candy (or not!)

  1. I’ll use the bike more than just one day

  2. Wedding venue alone is costing more than the bike

  3. She got an engagement ring

  4. Good chance her wedding dress will be poor value per wear

  5. But yes I do want to get married so :speak_no_evil::speak_no_evil::speak_no_evil:

There are actually so many ‘money pits’ with Weddings; if you’re not pretentious, lots of money to be saved.

Absolutely this. Please please please don’t get sucked into the “have to haves” that all of insta and tiktok try to tell you you “need”. It’s still not a cheap adventure however much you try to save but the important part is the people and your attitude. The rest is just extra. But it is a really magical day.

But at the same time it is a once in a lifetime thing (for most). We spent a fair few £ on ours, especially considering our wages back then, but I don’t regret a single penny of it as it was truly an amazing day.

It all depends on your circumstances of course. This was our first big life thing i.e. before buying a house and kids, so we didn’t mind splashing out a bit.

We weren’t frivolous, and did tonnes of work ourselves. But we very much did what we wanted and spent in areas that were important to us. That said, I have no doubt that things were relatively a fair bit cheaper back in 2012!

I think things were ‘relatively cheap’ until the post Covid inflation.

I’ll comment in the Financial wizards, little help please

Wish I’d spent a little more on my wedding suit… I hired it from Slaters which in retrospect was a bit tight of me. Everything else, the dress, venue, food accommodation was amazing and money well spent. Probably £15k all in 12 years ago so a bargain in comparison to some. Big country house, NE Scotland, dinner, 10 bedrooms, 60 guests, exclusive use for 1.5 days was £10k. I enjoyed spending it

not seen one of them in the wild in a very long time!

wouldn’t be allowed in a WT non-drafting event now as it’s not an approved frame

I like that, when I first started in triathlon one of the guys I rode with regularly had one of these. I also like yellow bikes.

That’s one of the things I really like about that bike. Like an old school MTB.

That pannier looks a bit flimsy
Ps. Are those fasteners down the fork legs for bags of some kind too?

They are, either bags direct or front rack
