I was. mostly at Roundhay in Elite T1/Swim start and T1 for Sunday a/g races
I was chatting to Audrey last night (she coaches the small ones at CPT alongside me) she got to look after the winners when going for AD controls. Was at T2. I know Bex from my L3 course also who I believe was there also. They both have been travelling all over officiating. Shame it’s self funded largely!
Bex was Chief Swim so out at Roundhay. yep, we do get to travel widely as long as we are prepared to self fund, but if you want to move on and up, it’s the only way so you need the means and time to do so. so far this year we (Mrs FB is also a TO) have been to Pontevedra for the World Multi-Cross, going to Antwerp for a World Cup event the w/e after next, and then Lausanne in August for the Grand Final. we also did Gold Coast final last year so combined that with a long holiday to explore Oz/NZ. back to earth this weekend with 2 local events in Sussex!
Any updates if Alistair is racing the IM on Sunday, not heard anything since Leeds
Well, he is in the start list at least. I haven’t heard anything about him withdrawing so I assume he is racing it.
BE are still posting stuff on social media about him racing - surely he would’ve let them know if he wasn’t planning on racing as it doesn’t look great otherwise.
I guess after Leeds, maybe the writing’s on the wall; so Plan B (or was it really A?) is a go.
As ever with AB assume nothing until you seen selfies with him at least at the airport…
He described it as ‘er, possibly’ when asked after Leeds, so it seemed unlikely but as you say chances are increasing as he’s obviously not formally withdrawn and they’re still bigging it up.
It’s on FB live, second half of the mara may be interesting if he races…
…even more interesting if he does win (no way guaranteed but the field is not stellar) and has to accept/decline KOna the day after…
What if he accepted just to keep his options open (and mess with people’s heads)? Or would that be messing with the holy universe’s Kona shakra?!
Guessing that the person who had to go elsewhere (or miss out) due to Brownlee accepting a slot and not showing would be off the Christmas card/potential bike buddy list…
That was certainly what Gustav Iden said during the Bahrain 70.3 awards ceremony. Both he and Blummenfelt took their slots, but whereas Kristian said at the table after he thought it was ideal timing the week after the WTS Grand Final, Gustav was a bit more “meh - I’ll see how I feel”.
I know 70.3 Worlds is a bit different to Kona, but now they’ve moved to a slot basis, an incomplete field must be a high possibility. People can get slots and then get injured, etc
Like all Yorkshiremen, we know he can talk a good show😉
You got the full Broadway production at Lake32
So… Looks like he is in Cork right now.
“obviously I haven’t had time to train specifically for it, but I’m fit and ready to give it a go” (or something along those lines)
It’s a massive coup for this event, AB’s Iron distance debut. I’m kind of surprised Challenge haven’t thrown money at him to do Roth.
Exciting! Popcorn at the ready for Sunday morning
OUCH!!!
Cancelled swim…
The swim is sheltered isn’t it? The air temperature won’t affect the sea temperature. I would say this is the sort of weather people should have been expecting; anything better would be a bonus.
