Commuting & Winter Riding Thread

Totally. I find tight shoes are a recipe for cold feet; same as gloves.

First time using glove liners inside some thick sealskinz gloves and they were lovely and toasty! At least I know for next time

Looking like a much more normal 2-3C this weekend at least

Think I’ve just over done it rushing for the earlier train. No seats , sweaty, feel like my legs might give way.

Balmy this morning, back on with the 3/4 bibs.

After reading a discussion about the pros & cons of the Garmin Varia on ST (that was my first mistake) I decided to try a small mirror on my Brompton for commuting.
I’m not sure I like it, most of my ride is a country road so there’s no opportunity to move over or position yourself differently so it just feels like one more thing to worry about.
Anyone else use one and find it beneficial?

-6 degrees this morning. Assos gloves, Winter shoes with Assos shoe covers, Assos Bonka Jacket, Assos Bonka tights, Odlo Merino wool base layers, one thin, one thick. Stayed nice and warm, but did’t get sweaty.

Not been in anything but shorts for a long time, full length have been hidden away for many years, probably should dump them really

Just about getting home in the last glimmers of daylight and did the padlock on the shed this morning without a torch - it’s definitely coming

Loads more light in the mornings but I leave work too late to get any actual sunlight

Would have been a great Lanza training commute today, as I’m not doing Lanza however it was a bastard windy one

It’s been perfect Lanza training for me for months now, the wind on the East Coast has been unrelenting!

Yeah, the wind was a bu**er this morning riding in!

This was a new twist.
Got to work this morning and went to fold the Brompton up but the seatpost was reluctant to go down.
When I looked ice had formed all along the front edge. I think it was a combination of the cold temperatures (obvs!) and the moisture in the air from the mist/fog. Pushed it down and it all shelled off like a snow cone on the top tube. Thought my fingers were cold and couldn’t feel my face until lunchtime.

I left my cycle kit at work yesterday and got the tube home as I was going out. The
Is morning cycling to the station in normal clothes was fun. Like a block of ice now.

I was expecting something akin to a collapsing serac.

#disappointed

I can only collect so much in 15 minutes, I’m not riding round all morning to keep you happy :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Ps. I had to google serac, I thought it was someone off Star Trek

Spent chunks of my life trying to avoid them falling on me (geddit )

Friday morning was the most horrible commute of the winter - freezing and a bone chilling headwind.

Next week is looking fun - looking at a super speedy ride in and mega suffer fest on the way home

Bastard headwind this morning. Better be going the same way on the way home.
