Cheapo front light is only ever used in flash mode, my main light is a rechargeable Moon on my helmet. I have a rear light on the seatpost as well as one on the back of the winerack. There is also a Moon Merak bar-end light on the off-side handlebar.
No need for a lock as despite no longer having an armed guard at work everything is still copacetic. Should I need to pop into shops on way home everything is easily detachable.
Love this bike. It’s done many CX League events, the 3Ps, Ad’H many times - including the short Tri - Marmotte route, Ventoux - as part of a Galerien -, Madeleine, Semnoz, Aigoul - as part of the route from The Rider - etc, etc & countless training miles.
I had no fixings at all & the canti brakes didn’t help. I’ve got a seatpost clamp & a Bontrager BackRack pannier. It works NB well & I hope to fit it to my next commuter.
I was always confused why cyclist hating car drivers would always say that cyclists jump red lights, because I had never seen it.
Then I started cycling in London. Jesus christ, loads of them do it. One nearly hit me earlier as I was crossing Euston road (on green) and she sailed through a red.
It’s my face and ears. I had thick gloves nd hiking socks on so fingers and toes ok. I wear a buff but if I pull it over my face its makes my glasses steam up.
I was a bit slower today, taking it very carefully. Within 10 mins I had to stop & unzip the inner ‘waistcoat’ on my Alpha Light jacket. I have a feeling I’m going to boil in my winter bib tights on the way home when it’s 4 degrees
Lesson learned - no matter how well you wrap up, minus 6 is too cold for winter weekend rides. Turned around after 20 minutes and spent the time setting up the turbo instead!
The roads were absolutely fine, glorious sunshine and not a spot of ice as far as I could see, which meant it was a shame not to be able to get out. Actually after wrapping up so warm the only part of me that stopped me actually riding was my feet - that’s after 2 pairs of thick sealskinz socks and winter boots. I actually think wearing two pairs of socks made my feet colder as there was no room for air-flow.
It did throw it down with snow though later in the day. Glad I wasn’t caught in the white out we had later on!
