Only if you burn it in a car.

probably quite unhealthy if you burn it on a bike too. Might stop drafting though.

Bilt Hamber Surfex HD Degreaser is much friendlier to everyone. Diluted down to 10-15% with water & run through the Park Tool cleaner it is highly effective & even for a skinflint like me appears great value.

Obs a loaded question but how do you be sure it is all out of your chain when you apply the lube after?

How messy are your chains getting that they need so much maintenance?

Wax based for proper bike, the dirt falls off so you don’t need to wash much at all as nothing sticks.
Commuter, occasional rinse with a friendly degreaser, and when I say occasional, I mean occasional.

Well I can’t be 100% sure. I give the chain a squirt with the hose, dry it with a rag & the apply fresh oil.

Obvs a loaded question, but how do you contain the diesel after cleaning you cassette  ?

Can’t see the benefit of getting a can, going to the petrol station, getting some diesel, making your hands smell to clean a chain.

When I do bother to clean my bike I get some degresser from Halfrauds. No mess, no bother, probably cheaper.

Not quite sure what your getting at but your detergent is fine for cleaning the cassette.
Hot wax works so brilliantly because is guarantees you get the lubricant to the only place it’s really needed, on the pins. It’s been shown that drip lubricants don’t reliably make it to the pins and you would compound the problem by having detergent left in there to break down the oil in the drip lubricant that does.

I’ve not got shares in diesel honest  but degreaser from Halfords is about 10 quid/litre diesel is just over a quid.

Hahaha. I’ve never checked.

Yeah, I just need to wipe my chain down a bit more when it’s wet for commuting; unfortunately I’m a bit slack on that even  It’s almost black at the moment.

So when I got home I thought I’d wipe my chain down. No chance; it had to go in a jar of spirits it was that bad with all the gunk! Jockey wheels looked like they had black fudge on them too

Reckon I’ll save about 100W by cleaning the drive train on my commute bike

Nearly knocked someone over today. On the cycle super highway down Blackfriars road, man bounds across the road, not at a crossing, looks left and then goes to step in to the cycle lane. I’m right on top of him at speed to his right. I shouted and thankfully he froze. Split second later and it would have been bad for both of us, although worse for him.

Stupid twat. The pedestrians are the worst part if cycling in London.

After years of resisting I finally bit the bullet and got a camera this year, after recent cases where the cyclist has been apportioned at least partial blame as well as the more obvious traffic related stuff.

Yeah. Happens a lot!

I do already have a camera, maybe I should start using it. I was on a boris bike which are very heavy, I am very heavy. Was doing probably 20-25kmh . If i had hit him he would have gone flying and probably cracked his head. Would have been very bad.

When I went out running in London last year, I was extremely wary of cyclists every time I crossed the road; seemed like sonic the hedgehog!

Yep, me too.
I’ll be riding into the railway station every day when I start my new job, and have had too many experiences with idiots to take the risk any longer of being held to blame.

I’ve been watching a helmet cam on eBay for about a year, but still to buy
