Commuting & Winter Riding Thread

I’m not clucking on that, but I’m surprised Daily Mail readers are upset about the changes

First ride in the great outdoors for almost 2 months.

Almost made it halfway before being verbally abused!!!

Gamin didnt save :see_no_evil:

I think I need to care for my winter commuting bike. The chain and gearset look and sound :skull: How often do you all clean your bikes at this time of year?

Not often, maybe every couple of months. I tend to just add more oil if things squeak.

My winter hack got a wash the other week while I was isolating.

It was a sorry state, been far too long. Naturally it looks like shite again after the first ride - I guess that’s just January riding though.

It’s too cold (and boring) to be mucking about with cold water and fiddly metal bits that make your fingers want to fall off. And clipping frozen hands on a chainring is flippin painful!

Also, not a massive fan of washing it in the summer either.

After every ride on wet days. Only have the one bike and it gets caked up here

Don’t know if it’s advisable but I just spray a shit load of WD40 on all the parts and all the shite drips off. Then a quick wipe down

I live in a top floor flat and there’s no outside tap in the common garden at back for a quick hose or whatever so it’s a bit tricky. Have considered the jet wash at local place but that’s a faff and read you have to be careful with bikes, displacing grease and stuff. I’m not that techy so any advice?..

I’m going to have to cycle home - into the teeth of Storm Dudley - with this :joy:

If that’s the right shifter you might be able to pull the cable out and tie a knot in it to get into a lower gear, or do something similar at the derailleur end.

If Dudley has a similar force to the recent winds we’ve had here shifting is going to be the least of his problems :grinning:

Doonhamer is being melodramatic ( ), it’s quite a nice day up here - so nice in fact that I’m going out in a short sleeve top and arm warmers for the first time this year

Released cable anchor bolt, pushed derailleur in a bit & cable tied to spokes, knotted the cable, tightened up cable & cable bolt, snipped cable tie & I’ve landed in the middle of the rear cassette which will help me a bit.

Lovely ride, wind is getting up a bit now.
Good to hear you’ve got a workable way of getting home.

Dont no one cycle to work on Friday. Storm is going to be worst for decades. 80 to 100mph winds in some parts. Stay safe people.

Going off-topic here, but I had a headtorch trail race scheduled for Friday evening & it’s been cancelled because of Eunice.

Going to have to be flexible on getting out over the next few days … window this afternoon and Sat am based on the forecast

whimp

Do it anyway
