Commuting & Winter Riding Thread

I don’t commute but do a lot of gravel riding in bad weather. I use the Shimano off road boots and they’re brilliant; waterproof and warm.

Like @Doonhamer, I’m a big fan of Galibier. I just bought a pair of their new bib longs and they are head and shoulders better than my previous favourites (Endura FS260). I get their monthly e-mail which had a code for 10 or 15% off so didn’t even pay full price.
They even come in a long leg version, which is great for me

I have two of their Mistral jackets, they change the design slightly each version but really warm and well thought out

I have a variety of base layers, mix of short and long sleeve - it’s only when I was winter commuting that I would always wear a long sleeve. At weekends, in daylight hours, I do get very warm in long sleeve base and winter jacket.
The best I have is a merino blend but 10 years old so won’t be available any more. Actually, all my base layers are of that vintage or older. I have 3 of the old Tess baselayers sold by Lewis Kit - they are indestructible and genuinely look pretty much unused and were bought c2008.

What’s the fit like on the Galibier Mistral. The Mistral 4 is currently reduced so was looking at it for a commuting jacket. I’m a 38" chest so traditionally a small but a medium with fitted cycling gear.

cheers

I’m 40" chest and large is snug so would think medium would be right for you?
The reviews have a lot of people positing their sizes which might help you be more certain

Agree with @Cobbie

Sounds similar to me, though i always seem to crest S and M. I bought the Tourmalet in a M and that’s a good fit.

I’m 173cm and about 71/72 kgs at the mo.

I’ve got a couple of Mistrals & a Mistral Pro, the medium is a good fit. I’m just under 6ft with a 39" chest, currently about 68kg :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: with long arms.

What was your kit choice, and how did it fare?

Winter bibs
Long sleeve winter base
Pro team winter jacket
Rapha winter gloves
Merino head band
Merino cap
Spatz overshoes

Toes went around 45 minutes in - fingers too - needed a glove liner - thighs riding through Richmond Park were feeling the cold also. It is noticeably colder in there though.

Penis has gone internal
