Well I knew it was a bit milder… ditched the thermal jersey, thermal hat, thermal socks and STILL melted!

That wind also best die down as forecast else its gonna be a slog all the way home!

Almost light for my entire journey now which is nice.

Sounds like a perfect day to deploy the windblock gilet & bib knicks :+1:.

Yeah I was just gilet and baselayer.

Im living in those sportful shorts from the Saddleback sale… desperately waiting for them to slash prices again!

Still quite a lot of good deals there: https://saddleback.co.uk/collections/outlet/filterbrand_sportful

Yeah I check regular… I really like the pad in the no-rain shorts. Just can’t see it in any of the other value offerings.
Could obviously take a punt, but even in the pictures they don’t look quite so well fitted. The no rain ones are perfect. Absolute steal at £35 or whatever.

Brompton was looking particularly cruddy when I rode into work on Tuesday so gave it a very quick once over last night. Front cones were loose, quite a few spokes had loosened off (it seems to do this quite a lot and I have to keep an eye on them), brakes were a bit stiff and tyres were very soft.
Result - 2 minutes faster into work this morning

I was in shorts and t-shirt last night :exploding_head:
And still melted.

I’ve been in shorts and tee all winter! :joy: :joy:

Was the same in Monday eve. My top was absolutely drenched with sweat after that hill sesh.

I reckon it will be the first shorts ride of the year this weekend

To overshoe or not to overshoe, that is the question this morning. Think I’m gonna risk it.

First time outside in a while. First time out for an early monring in a very long while!

Too late now…but toe covers are the answer.
I use them all winter for commuting. Really take the chill off and good for road spray.

Plus small form factor if you need to ditch them.

I had a quick reccy of two potential bike commute routes today.

Research over the last 2 weeks has convinced me that there are several good reasons to stay on the cycle paths. The roads are 6, 8, 10 or even 12 lanes wide, and cars go at 100kmh.

Here is my commute, this is Google’s “walking” suggestion:

Well I don’t fancy walking, but this morning I set off 2 wheels on some cycle paths from my house. Both were great for the first 10km or so, really wide, flat and a perfect surface. But then they just stopped.

Have you ever played Crossy Road? I needed to get from A to B.

(The straight road in the middle being a raised motorway flyover with no sidewalk or bike lane).

So I turned round and came home for coffee and a think. Haven’t cracked it yet, although a bit of Reddit research since suggests there is a local app called WAIN which has all bike paths marked and might be able to construct a joined up route across the city. :crossed_fingers:

A work in progress, definitely did not need overshoes though :sunny: :ok_hand:

Any routes round it on Strava? Using heat map or something?

Unfortunately the Strava heatmaps mainly seem to highlight the motorways, I don’t know why, there’s noone cycling or running on them :ambulance:

Google maps says “cycling is not available for this location”… maybe it’s trying to tell me something :grinning:

this Wain app looks good though

Yeo, they’d have been perfect today. Toes are rather chilly now, it got quite cold inland for about 45 mins. But then when you turn back towards the coast it gradually warms up again. Overall a win for kit choice today I’d say.

Corporate auto-correct duly noted.

Just before I post this, a reminder that cycling is really quite safe, but it could be a whole lot safer if this sort of thing never happened.
