Cotswold Classic / 113

Yeah I’ve said before you’ll be surprised how much faster you’ll be on the day.

In September I rode a 2:27 off of 246/264 on my road bike. I only had a 500ml water bottle too!

No idea if that day was quick or not as I’ve never ridden there and I’m not really familiar with it. I do remember an awful headwind around the airfield bit of the course. Again no idea if that’s normal.

I would say you need to get yourself in as early a wave as you can get in or you’ll find you’ll be shouting at people on the run to make room

The Hannington loop was on the website for the Classic earlier in the year, but now both the 113 and the Classic link to the same modified route that is slightly modified from the ‘badger detour’ route in 2019, but still crazy flat. The problem will be having no excuse to come out of aero.

I’ll probably sit up every 20/30 mins or so if i’m feeling stiff. It’ll cost, what, a few seconds each time in overall time, but that may be worth a lot more if i’m crippled on the run.

Thakns @adam . I’m just overthinking things as i’m really looking forward to having a race again! Like i said to @Poet, with my running i’ve been racing consistently for years. So i know how training pace converts to race day etc for all types of course, distance and conditions. I didn’t bike train for my last 113, i just commuted a bit and went on a couple of rides. For IMW in 2013 i did a Fink plan, but it was all steady state stuff. This year i’ve actually spent a year on Zwift racing, workouts etc. Done some decent solo rides. So i’m theoretically way more bike fit than i’ve ever been, hence the big unkown. If i race a half again next year, i’ll have a much better benchmark/ experience to draw from.

Swim is just gonna be rubbish, but i know that.

There’s a beach right next to transition.

Yeah I preferred the original loop that took in the hill after Hannington; pan flat courses are not my favourite.

Did a course recce last night. Most of the serious pot holes are marked. I’m a complete beginner in these things but the course seems very quick. I was very shocked at how fast a pace I held for a single lap. Almost 36km/h which for me is completely unheard of and the fastest I have done previous is 34.7 at 51fiver.

Blimey, good work!

Were you working for that speed, or was that HIM planned power/effort? Looks like you’re in a good place with only 4 and a bit weeks to go!

Are you worried now or rethinking your bike split?

Me?

Worried in what way - being schooled by @sowler? Not at all. I love to see everyone doing well.

Tbh I’m trying not to think about my own split. I think I’ve got my power dialled in now, so I’m just going to trust the tech and see what that delivers. In an ideal world I’d test a few variations of IF in a number of races and see what results that would draw.

We shall see what happens…

It was a slightly rushed reply

Partly worried about the potholes, but when I did the old course I don’t recall them being too bad.

No, that you’ll actually go faster on the bike than you were expecting, especially with the new rubber etc.

If you don’t toast your legs your run split should be at least 1:22!

Do watch out for the potholes though. In last years race my friend hit one in the last couple of miles and ended up breaking his collarbone. I think that this might be the reason why they have been marked this year.
I don’t particularly remember them being bad but I guess it only takes one.

And yes the course is fast I did just under 20mph/32kph and I am rubbish on a bike

I did the old loop up through Hannington at the weekend, and could not hold the TT position on the flat approach to the hill due to the road surface.
