Discussing the news

I’ve often thought about this - maybe there is a sport thread we could actually take this to…

Endurance sport needs very little ‘talent’ in my view. 99% perspiration, 1% inspiration and all that. Yes, the top guys have it all, genetics, opportunity, motivation and application. But I’ve always thought anyone could be ‘good’ just by trying hard. Not sure what ‘good’ is, 40min 10K? 3hr marathon? 10hr ironman? Not sure where the bar is, but pretty sure that most good agegroupers are good because they have worked hard over a long period of time, and not because they are especially gifted.

Maybe the most important physical attribute is that you don’t get injured. After that, it is mostly mental.
