Doping in UK vs elsewhere

Thought I saw something on SlowTwitch about more fine grained testing on the B sample, making it the more accurate, but I wasn’t paying much attention so…

Don’t think anyone else has mentioned it so I’ll roll in a Russian Conspiracy grenade: Russia after all have quite a lot of experience dosing people with umbrellas, powders, and what have you - how hard could it be for them to wreak revenge on the UK and USA by dosing our athletes…? :face_with_monocle:

90%-joking.

Actually maybe I should roll that one into ST.

Oh please do - they’re vociferous over there. No sense of humour either

Given they wouldn’t physically give athletes the medals, will they actually want them back now they’ve licked covid all over them?

Quick antiseptic spray - ha, if it was me I’d throw mine into a river. Well I’d say I did or pretend it was stolen. No - I’d sell it on eBay

I remember when I GAF about that; I think it ended in the mid 90s.

I still like the program as a reminder of the year’s sport but the actual award is a waste of time. The final straw for me was when Zara Phillips won it off the back of a concerted campaign from the equestrian press to vote for her. I had images of toffs glued to the phone all day pressing redial (or at least stood over one of their minions while they did it)

I just Googled who she was up against that year, certainly plenty I’d have put above her (acknowledging that I can’t remember what they did in that specific year in some cases)

To be fair, I think the cycling media lobbied pretty hard for their representatives in recent years (Chris Hoy, Cav, Wiggo, G)

The anglers out there tried for many years to get, I think, Bob Nudd and darts fans had a go for Phil Taylor for a few years too

Wasn’t that why they started announcing them on the night? Show has gone from a Sports Review to more of a chat show in recent years, just as my sports viewing has declined and I could really do with show that recapped the highlights.

Needs to be that way as the BBC only has access to footage of the olympics, football, snooker and some rugby league cup games these days

Given that it’s an Olympic year, I’m surprised that there’s only 2 Olympians (and 1 Paralympian) on the list.

Having said that, even though GB won a tonne of medals, I’m struggling to remember too many winners apart from Adam Peaty and Tom Daly

Josh Taylor should be a shoe in for this year.

First British / Scottish undisputed unbeaten World Champion in the 4 belt era.

This is very rare … like winning the tour … ish.

If Tyson Wins he will probably swear and Chuck the trophy back at them.

In an Olympic year and that’s the best we can muster?

Token footballer (I think) to keep the yobs happy.

Peaty at hundreds is mad, is there a more dominant sportsperson in any sport worldwide? And he’s been on Strictly!

Before this weekend I’d have said Lewis Hamilton, now not so much.
