End of WiggleCRC?

We just sold a Creig 24 and Benin 24 for 400, but that was to JimG (the guy me and Adam used to ride with who suddenly started ultra running with great success) at friends rates obviously, but I don’t think there was much more there hawking them around and the hassle.

I’m not selling a Frog. I can only state what our experience has been selling 3 x Islabikes. I have one going up for sale very soon, maybe the market has changed now :man_shrugging: Will find out I guess.

Ok, I misunderstood.

If islabikes hold their value better than frog then …

  1. Second hand buyers are paying more than they need to for a bike of no better quality than the competition. I guess islabikes have better brand penetration than I realised.

  2. It also explains why they’re folding, fewer people buy a new one

It could be. I’ve seen the Frog bikes at the place I bought my MTB from but we already into the Islabike mentality then. I can’t say which is best, as we’ve only had the latter but our resale experience has been great.
LO has a Benin that she is one the limit of now, so that will be going up soon, probably before Xmas and then a mtb for her next year.

I did IB did a ‘pro range’ or something like that and some of those were an eye watering £1600 or something. We only bought red or orange IB bikes, mainly so we could sell to boys or girls.

I think the real value in IB or Frog bikes is if you have multiple kids. They last for ages, are easy to maintain and great for passing on to siblings.

The Backyard Bike Shop, Woods Cyclery etc seem to think otherwise :man_shrugging:

Service Course are uber premium though.

I have “ sold “ stuff from Merlin which is 3 miles from me to local bike shop ( Paul hewitts)

I find this incredible and sad at the same time.

The other local bike shop has a “ really good” offer on a bike I like, and it is a really good offer, but quite simply I don’t like the guy so this puts me off.

Highly tempted to buy a set of Prime carbon wheels- 400 notes for the 56mm disc ones.

But then probably need to add 50 to buy some spares in case they are not available in the future.

Is that an Alpinestars shirt?

@Mungo2 - No worries, I’d forgot about your voucher, and it was a bit of a last minute idea.

@FatPom - Yes. I had an Alpinestars t-shirts years ago that I loved, but wore out.

It’s not a brand I’d associate with Wiggle. For the downhill MTBers I guess?

I’m pretty sure they won’t be taking any vouchers.

They’re probably trading as “Wiggle in Administration” or something similar now with new bank accounts.

With your voucher you’re just another unsecured creditor

Wonder how much longer Rapha will be around. Pretty sizeable loses the last few years.

The Walmart twins killed that off then.

It probably has

I was reading their accounts which are mildly interesting if you’re interested in the cycling retail industry.

One of their 2022 management KPIs is a web customer TLV (total lifetime value) of £598, up from £505 in 2021. I wonder if @Poet has been pulling that average up? I personally have never bought a thing, although I was tempted by some pink T-shirts on SportsPursuit once, but felt it’d make me a hypocrite as I’m not a Rapha-cyclist fan.

Working in oil/gas/energy I’m always so surprised at how small the numbers and margins are in smaller retail businesses. I’m so used to wells costing $100 mln, and P&Ls in the $blns.

Most of their stuff is made in China, isn’t it?

Obviously spending too much on marketing and/or issues with stock controls leading to them discounting too much stuff :man_shrugging:

The Prime stuff looks like rebranded Chinese stuff you could just buy off ebay. Be a case of finding which wheels are the same as theirs.
