Well done. To pick yourself up after being ill. That’s outstanding.
Amazing effort @FatPom.
Tip of the hat, Sir.
I’d have just run 2 laps, shrugged my shoulders and said, ‘ sod it - check out this rig. I’m going to have some beers and watch the suffering‘ … then maybe 6 hours later half pickled and buoyed by some tinny trance, strip off and say ‘hold my beer luv’ set off again into the night before collapsing into a hedge, waking up Sunday morning (in a state of befuddlement) and returning to base camp to a very angry partner/ empty lot
Results are up. I came 51/171 Solo Male
( the winner did 28 laps!)
How do you feel about it on reflection, a few days later?
Pretty positive actually, more so than SDW100. You have to be careful with E24 because you cannot DNF, due to the nature of it, so you have to set your own goal.
Back in Easter, I thought if the stars align, I might make 100 miles but events at SDW made me realise my body is a ticking time bomb. I could possibly address the hip issue and knees but not in enough time.
So I had in mind 80-85 miles as realistic. I’d practiced my pacing and nutrition but the humidity caught me and others out but not everyone. So there is a lesson here to learn about adapting nutrition and especially electrolytes as required. IMO, I either had way too much electrolytes, or not enough, which I know sounds ridiculous.
I am pleased with my mental strength of dragging myself out of the lovely van twice to get going again and proved to myself that it simply wasn’t enough to ‘be there’. Nobody really cares how many laps you do but I did.
You get to see the same people, especially solos but also teams. Lots ask how many laps have done, when I told them my 14th was my last, they all said that was ‘amazing’. At the time I thought it was empty praise because I been talking to so many 20 lappers (100 miles) but on reflection and looking at the results, it gave me pause for thought that I did ok.
I didn’t have the day I wanted but I felt like I dealt pretty well with the day I got and tried to turn lemons into lemonade.
Plenty of time between now and Wendover Woods 50 to work stuff out.
Comfortably in the top third of the field is a more than solid result
Wow. That’s an incredible achievement @FatPom. Congratulations.
Thanks mate. There were some great stories out there. One had an accident just before the race and did 5 laps with a crutch!
One lady solo racer was 81 yrs old! It’s an awesome atmosphere.
