Yes! Nice one @jaylen84! Ace riding. Any strava proof of this feat?
A blog post would be great. If like to take a bit of credit for the baiting

Not got round to uploading it yet. Itās basically just 200 straight lines on top of one another All I could think about was your certificateā¦!
In her own words: https://cyclingtips.com/2020/08/an-exercise-in-pointlessness-emma-pooley-on-her-world-record-everesting/
Got the link from a DCR post. A good read.
Good read that. Definately on the todo list.
Great write up.
Iām not one for motivational quotes, but I must say, i did like this:
āThe best words of wisdom I have ever heard for moments like this were spoken by Connie Carpenter-Phinney before a sportive in Boulder, Colorado. She said something along the lines of: āItās a privilege to be able to choose how you suffer ā not everyone has that choice. Some people have their pain forced upon them.ā This is so deeply true when you reach that moment in any sport event when your body hurts, and you just want to stop and sit on the ground and hang your head between your knees. Itās so easy to feel sorry for yourself ā but thatās totally mistaken! The āpainā is a choice, a privilege; and to indulge in self-pity is pathetic and contradictory.ā
Iāve been riding with Emma for 3 years, just before she did her last pro race. Her climbing form today is better than it was back then. I suspect that she would still give the best pro women a good run for their money on a big mountain climb.
Iām also pretty sure she is not done with Everesting yet as she knows that she left a fair amount of time on the table⦠watch this space
Yeah, that bit jumped out to me too and resonated. Definitely aligns with a lot of what was going through my mind when I did my first Ironman, and the emotions that were created off the back of the fundraising I had done for the organisation that had supported my dad back in the day.
I may well re-uise that at some point.
Never threatened her own record, but Emma Pooley has been Everesting again, this time on gravel with an average gradient of 16%.
Everesting blog finally complete. Writing it was as much a feat of endurance as cycling it⦠reading it would also be a commendable feat of enduranceā¦
Cracking write up @jaylen84!
Wowsersā¦impressive.
Love all your data charts and the consistency!!!
That is indeed one hell of a write up John. I donāt know what to think. You are brilliant and mad in equal measure. And sure can write. And ride a bike.
I was wondering how Everesting compared with IM in terms of difficulty, and you answered that question (and just about every other question) - Everesting TSS 600 Vs IM TSS 450 but Everesting had some rest. Kinda makes sense.
Salute you!
Ps particularly liked the twist of the random stoner sleeping next to your car. Why was he there? Itās like a novella
Thanks
I guess when youāre racing an Ironman, itās going to be as hard as it is. When youāre completing an Everesting, itās as hard as you want to make it. My Everesting certainly (surprisingly) felt fine throughout, and I could have made it a lot harder if Iād wanted, especially with hindsight. I was surprised how much recovery I needed after it given how āfineā it felt when I was doing it. The stoner boy did freak me out a bit, I guess my mind started racing a bit, but seems he meant no harm. Maybe he wondered what my car was doing in his stoning spaceā¦!
That was quite the read, well done & thanks for posting.
Itās great to see what peoples minds fixate on during these challenges, for you it seemed to be The Stoner, poo opportunities & Killer Bats.
Good to hear that 30ltrs of fluid was enough.
Crowcombe Hill is the steepest hill Iāve ever ridden up on a road bike and it came about 90 miles into a 125 mile sportive I did. I really felt like crying and canāt comprehend this, at all!
Impressive, look forward to the teck vid, from the outside looked like he left a frew marginal gains on the table that were used on the WR.
Enjoyed those videos. Forget marginal gains, he just overcooked it! To be so far inside the record and then finish so far outside it - I think he could have broken it but possibly got a bit too āgreedyā with the time he thought he could do and rode too hard too soon in too high a gear. Ronan McLaughlin has his marginal gains nailed much more than Max I think! He had from memory only 3 gears, chopped handlebars, an aero brake, a helmet with vents which could close for the descent and probably more as well. Maxās bike was fairly standard⦠still a heck of an effort though.
