Sounds like my company as well as p company, skive and be promoted way above your ability level is most accurate but not got the same ring to it.
TransitionTed of TT1.0 fame used to say that if you can’t buy commercial this brand is next best thing. He owned a gym at the time so was knowledgeable in these things.
I know Wahoo brought out their fancy Kickr Run treadmill a year or so ago but I just saw that it’s 6 grand! Eek. I’ve also heard that Woodway treadmills are great but they’re in the same ridiculous price range.
I watch a few videos from an AG triathlete and he’s got what I think is a Technogym MyRun but they’re nearly 4k as well.
If it were me today buying one I’d be more inclined to go for something like the NordicTrack as it’s actually affordable. Get it from a decent shop (John Lewis?) so if there’s issues they can hopefully sort them. Maybe we should have a thread here for treadmills. Welcome to the forum and let us know how you get on.
I’ve had my Air Assault Runner Pro treadmill for 10 years. It’s the one used in the elite indoor racing. Very good, easy to use (in terms of function) and great for developing running form.
I bought a Reebok one from Argos back in 2013 when my wife was pregnant with our yongest (reduced from £1300 to £399). It’s still going! Albeit with very light use. My #1 tip would be to get appliance care insurance for it; repairs are £££. We had the main circuit board go after maybe 18 months, then the MDF deck broke after about 3y. Since then it’s been fine.
Biggest thing now is having to go out and clear away the spiders from the garage roof so the eldest can use it!
9/10 you will get spotted skiving on a military course though! Certainly if the DS are any good.

Yep…it’s a stand up fail on P Company…
