There was actually a small tear in the foam on delivery, so I contacted them and they quickly sent me a replacement set of foam. This has allowed me to experiment.
I got some heavy duty velcro from Screwfix, cut to strips, and positioned carefully so that the high sided parts are secure, but also so that the bolt head areas on the flat section are not obstructed. I think it actually works out quite well. The velcro is significantly thicker than what aerocoach provide, but the effect is it creates a slight ridge on the inner side, effectively acting as a little barrier to your arms sliding inwards. It pinches in a bit at the top but that doesn’t seem noticeable. Maybe not uber-aero, but getting my shoulders and arms further in more comfortably will have a bigger (positive) impact that 1mm of extra surface area in the wind.
Will see how it goes on a turbo session. Hoping to get outdoors on the TT a fair bit over the coming weeks as the weather looks a bit nicer, and I finally have some time off.
I really liked the Aerocoach ones. They were great, and I rode really well in the Cotswold race with them last year. The carbon just kept cracking (same place on two pairs, so I just took a refund). These are largely the same, but just cheaper, and aluminium. A bit heavier, but should be more durable. So I’m assuming from a position perspective, I’ll like them just the same as soon as I get out on the road. They’ve been just as good on the turbo
I have some nopinz ones. I buy the aeroness. But £150 for calf guards is getting a bit silly! Altho the £\W is still probably fairly good compared to some things!
I’ve been using red light, near and far infrared therapy a few times a week since January. The results have been underwhelming. Or more accurately, I’ve noticed no difference. I’ll not be rushing out to buy fancy pants sportswear
