Nope
Hence my comments earlier, micro sleep minimal as possible and get to the CP asap and recover there.
He’s got around 400km left & unsure how much food he’ll be able to find in the last section but must feel great to be on the home straight.
My understanding is that they have 3 days to complete each of the first 3 stages and 36 or 48 hours for this final one.
The website is somewhat unhelpful on the precise rules; there’s a lot made of the fact that you’re not allowed to fly to the start but less clarity over the racing details. I think you have to buy whatever you consume en-route whether it’s food or accommodation - I think having a mate give you anything isn’t allowed.
Saw a few pics whilst away at the weekend, terrain looked less difficult and Ed looks in great spirits
Yesterday was a tough one & not a lot of sleep overnight for @ed_m , but he’s unmistakably in Scotland.
You know you’re in a mental event when the ‘home straight’ is 400km!
But what a 400km! Although somewhat weather dependent
Ed is chasing Claire
They seem to be neck a neck but difficult to know given the irregular updates … just over 100km to go!
3-4pm finish?
Bit of controversy as the clear race winner Angus Young has been disqualified. He had a terminal mechanical with 230km to go & borrowed a bike from a dot watcher (not known to him) that he thought was legal but later determined to be outside assistance as the bike wouldn’t be available had the race not being run.
Not quite sure why anyone thought borrowing someone else’s bike fell inside “self supported” rules
Desperation? Finish on something rather than not finish at all, if it was a terminal mechanical.
I’m not entirely sure what happened but the implication from some of the comments on Instagram is that the organisers ok’d the swap at the time then changed their minds later.
Yeah, even if he’s DQ’d he has cycled LEJOG. You wouldn’t give that up if you had the chance to finish the route/journey/achievement.
probably got some grief from other racers and their supporters. as @jorgan says - get that far and sure as hell you’d want to finish even if it does mean a DQ. call it a moral victory maybe.
He was on the highway to hell
I think it was a bit awkward because he was one of the organisers!
Which reminds me of that song by The Darkness. How TF can you have a one way ticket to Hell…and back?!
