Garmin questions

I reckon my 935 shows a full zone higher on a run that what I’m actually running. Either that or my brain becomes disconnected from my legs.

What’s the feedback on the 945, OHR accurate?

Just updated my 945 and it’s offering virtual run training with Zwift. I’ve paired it easily with the app on my phone, might try it next time I’m at the gym.

Probably be on other recent devices soon?

Jeff

@stenard - Was that the 945 on your new toy run on strava? It looks relatively small, for a GPS watch, if so

Yep. It’s pretty svelte. I’ve been a long believer in the square face for actual usable screen real estate for a running watch, but round isn’t so bad. And as I have good eyes, being able to have 6 data fields on one page means I won’t ever need to change.

It definitely is more discrete as a watch too. Especially as I have rather small wrists.

OHR when resting seems good (apparently I hit 39 during sleep last night).

Some really neat features as well that are subtle, but on a single run I like …

  • Gesture mode - you can set it up so that during an activity, specifically after sunset if you wish, raising the watch to look at it will temporarily activate the backlight

  • Being able to setup a new wifi connection on the garmin connect app is so much easier. You needed to use a computer and Garmin Express with the 920

  • Hot keys are a nice addition - can set it up to quickly to be able to access a number of features directly. Also has a flashlight mode! And can take screenshots (but you need the data cable to download them, and I don’t have that on me today, hence the photos).

  • I will appreciate the golf mode, for the occasional time I play. Although it makes my standalone Approach unit fairly redundant.

  • Some of the widgets are cool. As I have my TrainingPeaks synced to my google calendar, I can see everything, both training and life events, quickly.

  • I’ve already setup some music. Good quality. Annoyingly my Amazon Prime membership that I have through my gf doesnt apply to Amazon Music (that’s only the primary account holder). So I’ve only been able to add a few legacy cd’s (!!) I bought on amazon years ago that seem to be automatically included in my Amazon Music account. Runcasts is an app that has quickly enabled me to sync one podcast to the watch. But any more subscriptions requires a $5 membership. I may just have to think about getting spotify for the £9.99/m. That would at least give benefit to my Google Home setup as well.

  • Haven’t tried it yet, but Garmin Pay will negate the need for taking an emergency card out with me.

  • I will definitely use the map at points.

Anyone want to buy a fully functioning 920, with a brand new spare strap, and 2 chargers?! :joy:

When you get to it: if your bank doesn’t support Garmin pay (which it probably doesn’t), curve is a catch-all, it lets you add your existing card rather than move bank / open a dedicated account at Santander.

Plus, you get a coolAF metal card

Interesting. I already had a Santander credit card which I’ve alread registered, so that gives me the emergency option

If you pay for the top version. I’ve got the cheapo one (off your heads up actually @Poet and I really like it)

I looked into it after the references above, and whilst it initially looked appealing, once I realised it doesn’t include Amex is basically became pointless for me. 90% of my monthly discretionary spending is on my Amex.

I had an Amex Platinum card years ago; it was fcking useless half the time, as loads of places didn’t take it

We have a household account that is linked to the prime video and music and link personal accounts to that to get the free shipping. Log the tv and iPad into the streaming account, phone into the shopping one.

Still frequently the case outside of London, but everywhere here pretty much takes it now

I can’t get my head around this. Everything I read online said Prime Music was a personal only account, unless you have Music Unlimited, which is a separate thing with an additional payment.

It is a personal account, just not my personal account or my wife’s personal account. It is the personal account of our tv. Then prime let’s other members of the house link to this personal account to take advantage of the free shipping.

Or you could just log your watch into your girlfriend’s account. Should be an interesting conversation, let us know how it goes

Yeah…haven’t actually told her about the purchase yet…

…or you could just run without music

WHAT?!?
Why would you do that???

To listen to the birds, the wind in the trees, your footsteps, your breathing (and tank commanders about to run you over at a zebra crossing :joy:)

The school bus to her left, at my side, saw me and stopped. (I was walking the dog, so don’t wear them then, as I need to listen when he talks to me)

How ever do deaf people cope?:wink:

I hate birdsong.
I sound like an ex-smoking asthmatic (because I am) when I run
My size 11 Nikes slap the floor like a pair of wet kippers
Wind forces me indoors.
Nothing but dry, float days for me when I venture outside.
