Garmin questions

Sat watching TV, glanced at watch (735xt) to see screen had gone completely blank.
Every button just made the backlight come on and a short vibration.
It definitely wasn’t flat but put it on charge and tried a soft reset, which woke it up but time/date was 3pm 5th Jan. Went outside to start an activity (at which point it started hailing) but it was taking forever to acquire satellites so left it on the window sill and came back inside.
Just retrieved it and everything seems to be back to normal but a bit of a weird occurrence.

Hmmm weird. My Forerunner managed to completely disconnect itself from my Garmin Connect overnight. Tried to sync and it said it couldn’t find it, so went into ‘devices’ and it had completely disappeared.

Seems to have been setup again ok now. But no idea how that happened!!

Both mine and Mrs T’s Garmins did the same over the weekend

I presume you mean the mobile app? There’s supposed to be an all new version fairly soon so they could be making backend changes to prepare, not great for users though.

Ah yes, i read about that. Yeah that could be it then.

Oh great. So after years of connect being refined and bug fixdd we get a brand new app, full of a whole host of new bugs.

My Garmin is going through every type of weird. It’s still doing its core thing though, tracking my runs, so I haven’t replaced it yet.

But most recent trick is for screen backlight to come on, and just simply refuse to go off. It flickers a bit, but stays on until battery flat which takes about 24 hours.

Another trick is for the word “security” to flash up on the display, nothing gets rid of that except a reboot. That has happened 3 times now, thankfully not while running.

Mrs W’s 735 did that over the weekend too. It needed to be re-paired from scratch.

My Fenix 6 seemed to be OK :man_shrugging:

I was out riding with a group yesterday. One of the group tried to bunny hop a speed bump in Windsor Great Park and one of her bottles bounced out of the cage. I was at the back of the group, so I did a u-turn to go back to pick it up and then chased back onto the group.

About 20 minutes later we had to stop when someone punctured.

I glanced at my watch and there was a message showing about a crash having been detected :flushed:.

Did I want to send a message to say I was Ok - yes/no?

So the stop and u-turn had caused the watch to think that I’d crashed. I guess there was an alert at the time giving me the opportunity to tell it I was OK, but the watch was under several layers of clothing, so I wasn’t aware of this. Because I didn’t respond, it sent the emergency message and stopped the activity ( to stop Strava KoMs while in the back of an ambulance?).

Mrs W saw the message, but she knew I was riding with a group and she could see where I was at the time from the live track, so assumed that if I had crashed it wasn’t serious.

I reckon if it had happened when I’d been out by myself and somewhere more remote, she might have been sending an ambulance to my assistance :rofl:

Garmin crash detect is too sensitive!

I can get alerts if I stop at junctions, or lean my bike up against a fence. And it can be a hard to cancel with gloves on, especially if you are turning at the junction so the garmin has gone into navigation mode! Sent more than one alert in this scenario, and had to call to confirm I am still alive.

Not sure how you missed it though. It causes my phone to scream like a banshee.

My headunit used to do it to the point I think it might’ve caused me to crash had I left it on. Could never cancel it easily either (not least as I struggled to see the menu options). Disabled now.

Yep, turned off on both my edge and forerunner. Way too sensitive. The latter seems to remind me every time I start an activity that I have it disabled. Also quite annoying, but only a popup for a few seconds

Got a notification saying I’m on their connect beta this morning. As far as I can see it’s just a different Home Screen

Was going to say the same, Home Screen has changed and it asked me questions about priorities etc and training plans, but I said they weren’t important.

Need to have a better look later.

Yes, that is all that’s changed. I’ve still not been given access but a number of the commentators have talked through the changes.

Tbh, I hardly use Garmin Connect. It’s just a gateway app

I’m not particularly enjoying the beta version of Connect.

I guess it’ll take a bit of time to get used to the layout and where the information is :man_shrugging:

It seems a bit flaky too. It keeps losing connection with my phone even while the watch is still receiving notifications for other apps. It then requires a restart of the watch to get it to see it again.

I assume the prominence of challenges on the home screen is aiming to compete for your attention with Strava’s challenges

Ive not been upgraded yet. I said before I hate it when companies completely re launch apps and products because they are always full of bugs.

OT but I took our EV for a software update, and things started working which weren’t there before. However, I noticed the first new bug within 100 metres of the forecourt

Time for a new strap or a new HRM?

7min/km
8min km muddy trail
7min/km

Just Garmin HRM Dual and Strava phone app recording.

Lick hand and spread on contacts after about 200m

Strap is a bit tired with one contact flapping, battery is good I think.

That’s generally how mine degraded, massively high HR. Garmin then calculates all your metrics based on you doing a massive effort

Could be the battery but unlikely.
