I had a look at the Revolt X and the Revolt Advanced while I was in the shop today, I’ve sorted of wanted a gravel bike for a while but in the flesh I wasn’t inspired. The Hardtail MTBs might be more up my trail.
Eff dat. Scratched.
If pushing your bike uphill into a 40kmh headwind, opening gates and wading bogs is your thing, you’ll love this.
If you actually enjoy riding your bike, then perhaps not
Total sense of humour loss when I saw 12kmh after 5 hours of hard pedalling. Just thought - eff this. Not doing 15 more of that, just to do 20 more of the same back.
Not for me, but it might be for you
I cycled up the Cam Road and picked up the return route. I didn’t see a soul for 2 hours, which was bloody lovely!
Understandable, it’s rained solidly here since 10:30 & I’ve had the heating on.
Can’t imagine an overnight camp with minimalist kit would be too much fun.
Unlucky @Poet - sounds like a week too late for decent weather.
Did you say it was over 400km - yeah, not my cup of tea when the conditions are ‘character building’
It didn’t actually rain whilst on the route.
just the wind. And pushing bikes. AND THE GATES
That wind was a twat in the 2 hours I was out, no matter which way I turned it seemed to be there!
I had trouble staying upright on Moelwyn Mawr today, Met office said gusts of 80kph on the mountains
The spirit of Gravel!
I absolutely don’t mind hike a bike, so long as it’s worth it (Scott Frontier is absolutely worth the slog!)
And the gates were those annoying latch ones that are impossible to open, not the nice tall handle ones for horse riders.
Anyways … it looks massively hard going
I know third place and he wanted 30hrs 20kmh ave, and is currently on 16.5kmh average (I was aiming for 15.5km!!!)
Kevin Dawson (yes, that ex-TT monster) was riding my target average before he slept.
Time to buy an MTB
Oh - The Coal Road into Dent
Utterly stupendous, barren and not a soul in sight
Can’t have been that hard going, a new FKT was set
One of my mates on the DD finished at 4:30 this morning & the other is just 4km from the finish.
It’s why we kicked poet out of Yorkshire
Where he says it was hard going.
It just wasn’t an event for me.
I don’t find wrestling with gates that don’t want to open and pushing my bike up pointless detours enjoyable. At all
When I’d left the route, and could actually cycle, it was super fun! Then I picked up the route again, and yet more utterly demoralising hike a bike sections
Maybe you’ll enjoy it.
But it wasn’t for me. At least not this weekend
I think if I was more mentally ready for that, it might be okay. But when I was 20km into the “worst 100km” of the route, knowing there was another 80km of that, I’d had enough.
I went out and did Laureens Ride today, seeing as it’s been dry for weeks, that was thoroughly enjoyable.
@jeffb - you live in Teesside, though, eh
@Jorgan -
Have you seen this one?
CotsDuro 28th June:
Cough, Durham
Anyone remember Frankenbike? I’m thinking it needs dusting off and the Thunder Burts put back on it
ETA. Here she blows…
That would’ve been perfect for Dales Divide
Those PX bottle cages were an absolute bargain!
You try finding a 22g carbon cage (that actually holds bottles securely!) for £20 now
Yeah I have them on my Endurace atm. Lovely kit.
Revolt X Pro?
Gates on trails: PITA
Recommend CX dismount, perfected on SDW (it’s got ~100 gates ) So much better. If it doesn’t open easily with one hand, then takes 2 secs to prop your bike on the fence and use both hands.
Doesn’t make any difference to the wind, though.
