What is “gravel”?

Aggregations of crystals formed in the urinary tract.

Before @GeordieM comes along with pics of his planned ride, I made it up to Llyn Brenig & Llyn Alwen today via Clocaenog forest.

Always great up there, but today was my first sunny day for a while.

68km/1488m, a good 80% off-road with one tumble which meant taking plugs of grass out of my helmet .

Noice!!!

What’s @GeordieM doing?

@CarlJ , of TT1.0, is doing the Dales Divide this weekend :no_good_man:t2:
600km of Arnside to Scarborough and back … via the Dales :face_vomiting:

@Poet

That Dales Divide looks a bit unnecessary :grimacing::smile:

Gralloch route is being released today apparently.

@Sowler is in I believe, have you entered yet @GeordieM ?

Route is out. Looks a bit lumpy, mostly off gravel by the looks of things (as it should be) but I don’t know the area at all so its fairly meaningless to me! My aims, don’t fall off and finish. Top 50% would be nice.

I know there’s been some whinging about the cut off times at the first feed, especially for the older wave 40+. A mechanical in the first segment could mean being broom wagonned for 40+ gents. Will take a look at course…

Yeah thats a bit shit actually! I mean the under 40s only get an extra 5 mins! They do say that cut off times might be extended and will be ‘assessed dynamically’ whatever the fuck that means

Where are you two staying? I’m just looking at booking sites for the campervan now, planning on driving up Thursday evening. I’ve also roped my TCR riding partner into doing this too.

Good Morning :wave:t3:

I’m about to buy some Zipp 303S wheels for my gravel bike, with some Shimano RT-MT800 160mm rotors … BUT I don’t know if I need an internal or external lock ring???

What is the difference?

Something about a 12mm axle :woman_shrugging:t4:

I’ve got an Orro Terra C with GRX600/400 mix.
So you can do my technical specs Google-Fu for me :white_check_mark:

@GeordieM - What did you get? And where’d you get your wheels? Sigma Sport is looking like the cheapest “all in” for me (getting a cassette and some tyres, too. Might get inserts as well!)

160mm pah. You need 180mm up front!

I have no idea, but it looks like its wheel dependent. And usually the wheel sets come with lock rings don’t they?

You’ll certainly look the part pootling down Alderley Edge high street

The 303s will come with a Zipp branded external lock ring included. It tightens with the standard Shimano BB tool. Don’t grease it, it’s dry fit.

Think I got my 303s from Start Fitness. They were reduced below RRP considerably and I googled a discount code too. Sigma, Trendz, PBK were all similar prices I think. Do sigma still have that new customer code advertised on their site? Do use that.

(Don’t want to talk wheels. My 404 FC rear has 2 snapped spokes from derailleur impact and is with the LBS who looked unimpressed at the job. I’m praying the spoke holes are undamaged. I think Zipp do have a crash replacement policy but I’ve not read it. I’m a bit particular about my nice bikes and I don’t do “luxury” anywhere else in my life and I’m genuinely upset about the incident :sob: Need to get over it. Anyway I digress. (Check limit screws when you swap your new wheels on @Poet!!!).)

Are most of you using Tubeless now?

Obvs Zwift is my only biking these days; but still ludditing with a wheel-on trainer/PM so it might still help me prevent flats

My Canyon has Reynolds Assault LE so they are tubeless ready.

Should have spent the money for that Enduro jacket on a smart trainer!

For me tubeless gravel :white_check_mark: tubeless road :negative_squared_cross_mark:

It would get more use, I grant you that

From Monday, is 35.7kmh in 45mm knobbly tyres “pootling” :woman_shrugging:t4:

I’m still confused about this internal/external business :joy::face_with_peeking_eye:

Basically, will they fit my forks and frame?
My current rotors are 6-bolt, so can’t tell really.

And yeah - I was going to buy them from PBK but they sold out. Now Tredz have sold out. So Sigma or some unknown place :woman_shrugging:t4:
