Why would you replace them?
Future race options
Yeah, I’m debating Copenhagen
Never been and it looks decent
Howay @poet get yourself entered.
Saw you’ve been upping the training on Strava this last fortnight - those brain cogs must already be turning!
Totally class place to race and an (honest) pb course all day long.
I’m already in, guess @chickenboy is likely to return, @Musttrimore is in - got to persuade you to join the line up to give me another set of feet I can try to hold onto in the swim
I loved Copenhagen and want to go back, not for an Ironman though
Hopefully get into the bridge run in 2025
Theoretically, how worried do you think a theoretical potential first timer (who doesn’t exist but if they did isn’t brilliant on the bike) should be about the reduced cut-offs in Copenhagen?
That theoretical individual could theoretically crawl quite far in the extra hour and a half they might theoretically get elsewhere…
I wouls say i recently fit the profile of your theoretical first timer and have proportionately got better times at copenhagen rather than wales or bolton.
My wife definitely fit the profile and got round barcelona in 14:45.
Im sure there would be some more scientific thoughts but on our experiences would say copenhagen over a lovely but tough wales.
All depends…
Theoretically I think the course in Copenhagen is fast to the extent that a lot of people would be an hour faster there than elsewhere - thus negating the reduced time limit.
As a non theoretical example I rode 5.56 in Bolton this year and 4.39 in Copenhagen. I was at roughly the same level of fitness and rode similar power numbers. That’s nearly 80 mins difference. On the run I did 3.25 in Bolton and 3.14 in Copenhagen - again at a reasonably comparable level of fitness. That’s a 11 min saving bringing the total savings to about 90 mins.
This is a pretty extreme example because Bolton is (was) so difficult but I still reckon you’re looking at 45 mins to an hour quicker at CPH compared with a lot of courses.
Ha, you know me too well. Mission sub 9:30 for me, mission sub 9 for you. I’ve only gone and entered wales too, just for shits n giggles
For a half
Just trying to get back into good habits, opposed to bad ones!
Good stuff.
Wales will be a qualifier for Nice 2025. That might tempt you?
I’m all in for sub 9 next year but I would quite fancy a bit of the Nice action in 2025.
I’m already in for Copenhagen ‘24 with the aim of sub 9 but Copenhagen is a qualifier for Kona ‘24 rather than Nice 2025.
Gonna enter Barcelona as a back up for sub 9 if Copenhagen goes tits up but if I can nail it in Copenhagen I’d look to transfer from Barcelona to Cascais looking for a Nice 2025 slot.
Better start saving…
Yeah, but see my comments above. Copenhagen is so fast is basically a half anyway
You guys are s.
How the hell am i going to plant the seed to the Mrs that i want to go to Copenhagen for a race. That’s never going to wash. This may need to be a multi-year project.
Now my DOMS have all gone i’m chomping at the bit to start running and riding again (obvs not swimming! ) . Just have some niggles i need to be sensible with.
I was thinking an IM in 2025 with a few halfs next year but if there is a TT showdown in CPH I could be tempted.
This’ll put you off …
£600 entry fee (4,741DKK + 9.25% pull yer kegs down “fee”)
£300 return flight, inc bike bag + carry on. Friday - Tuesday.
£400 for a basic hotel (at least double for an apartment to cook etc)
Plus standard holiday day trips etc.
There. Fixed.
Think I’ll just drive to Nottingham at 0230 again
I have a deferred spot for Outlaw next year but I was thinking of emailing OSB to see if I can move it to the half. Last week has left a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth with my frustration of being a bit shit at the full distance.
Having said that, I have to say I would love another trip to Copenhagen. Especially with a quick AF bike course. Turning 40 next September too so could swing it as an early b/day present to myself
Yeah - feels like I never really “cracked” it.
Same with marathons.
I’m mentally weak, though, and don’t like hurting
ForestMan 2008 - 13:51, hopped the marathon!
ForestMan 2009 - 11:01, fourth overall. Overtaken in the last mile
Outlaw 2010 - 10:21, crap run. After running a 17:07 5km and 35:01 10km earlier that year - switched to longer runs.
Outlaw 2011 - 10:20, crap run after running a 30mile canal race in 3:27 earlier that year. I reckon I was too light
Outlaw 2012 - 10:16, crap swim, bike and run
Outlaw 2019 - LOL! Bike cancelled. Entered on a whim, during race week, on the Monday when it was 25°. I’d done a 1:20 half marathon and 4:27 at Cots113, too
Outlaw 2021 - 10:49, asthma/panic attack on the run. I’d had a DNF at Bolton and an utterly shite personal life year , although came 2nd overall at Southport Tri
Feeling a bit meh about not doing one this year.
But ~£1.5k is a lot of cash.
I spent ~£1k going to Mallorca and didn’t really enjoy it, so don’t want that to happen again
@Jorgan is gonna come and mock me soon … (Mr 3 seconds off)
Anyways, I’ve seen how it is now;
Bike. Bike. Bike.
You can swim an easy 65-70 minutes and make that up by slingshotting people and working in an illegal pace line for a 5:05.
You’re then freshAF for the run. And doing 5:00/km when fresh is a piece of piss.
This is frustrating me the most I think. I’m crap on the bike.
Too inconsistent really. 2020 / 2021 I was on fire. Hard weekend rides, 2x interval session a week (sometimes more) and plenty of easy riding thrown in too. My trouble this year / last year is I think I can still ride to that level. I need to get back to that and know I need to put the work in. Tenby should have been a sub 6 bike especially with those conditions - I’ve been swimming around 1:05 for a while now - but never cracked 4 hours on the run. I was something like 4:10 at Bolton last year - I need to have a flat run!
My “golden years” were 2010-2012.
All 59-63 min swims.
5:15-5:25 bikes
3:35-3:55 runs.
Just never got the right combo
I reckon I’d have crushed Outlaw 2019.
I wanted a 9:50 in 2021, but it wasn’t to be
(1:05/5:15/3:25 + transition)
Same. I would have crushed that bike course that day. I ran a 3:38
