Headphones

Who took the Jam out of your donut?

I wear mine on trains to cancel out the plebs and loud mouthed northerners.

And in the office to cancel out the loud mouthed southerners.

And I have Bose sport buds for exercise, also excellent.

Exactly. Fully with Flash here.

Who runs in headphones. I fact toughen up @poet who needs music to exercise. Just tune in to the beat of your own suffering. You think Goggins has a bit of David Guetta to get him through a sesh?! :joy:

Who the fuck is Goggins?

I’ve not done a “sesh” in years.
This is meant to be enjoyable.

I have an older pair of these. They make plane travel 70% less shit and 84% less fatiguing. I wear them on the turbo to cancel out the whirrr of the fan and KICKR and, since I’m not an ear sweater, they’re perfect. Also for cutting the grass to cancel the 100 dB Mountfield. Probably one of my top 5 all time electronic gadge purchases.

Always find it strange seeing people run in over ear noise cancelling headphones at this time of year, must be boiling.

Totally agree, would never get on a plane or bus without headphones!

I use the quiet carriage on the Avanti.

And tell people off for using their phone, even if they’re bigger than me - full CCTV now, and you can see yourself being watched on the screens.

And get a bus? :joy::joy::joy:

I have an older pair of over ear Bose QC headphones. Can’t remember the number but they are so old that they aren’t USB charged, you need to charge a battery pack. (they come with two). Obviously no BT either.

Bought mainly for plane travel. Work brilliantly still but don’t get much of an outing these days. I honestly can’t remember how old they are, probably 20 yrs or more. I’ve replaced the outer jacket once in that time…

I do remember they were $600 way back then.

I’ve a pair of Bose QC 15’s which I bought in 2011 for about £250. They take a single AAA battery for noise cancellation and are obviously wired due to their age. Bought for plane travel as well but I do use them occasionally for teams/zoom calls. Replaced the ear pad foam a couple of times with cheapo replacements from Amazon. They’ve been worth every penny.

More recently (about four years ago) I bought some Alexa ear buds for running which are OK-ish. I also have a pair of Shokz Open Run Pro which I won in an instagram competition. As mentioned earlier they’re rubbish for music but good for podcasts. If I was running alongside a busy road with them on they wouldn’t be very good as you can hear too much of the ambient noise but around parks, off-road etc. I find them excellent.

Those open swim Shokz are crap.
6hr battery life is nowhere near that.

I charged them Sunday.

Walked to the pool and back. Swam.
Couple of train journeys and a cycle commute.

Dead. Despite saying “charge medium” they immediately turn off.

The proprietary charging cable I can’t be arsed carrying around, so I’m pissed.

The Jabra have a built in USB cable in the carry/charging case. So the charge lasts ages, as they have what 5-6hrs on the headphones and that again in the caddy. Then just plug the caddy in with the headphones inside at work and both recharge.

Would not recommend.

I had a couple of pairs of J Buds that were shit; failed in a couple of months. Replaced with Jabras :+1:

(JBuds had an integral charger cable, but not the Jabras?)

Having previously harped on about how great (After)Shokz are I’m changing my opinion.

I preferred them over in-ear buds as I could hear peripheral sounds & because they are held on by a band they weren’t going to fall out.

The first set/pair I bought 4yrs ago melted at the type-C port while charging :astonished: after 3yrs & my 2nd set lost sound from the rhs when I switched them on over the weekend.

Shokz are now dead to me & annoyingly I can’t find any trace of my receipt

I’m not a sound connoisseur & only listen in rural/countryside areas while running so was thinking of a cheap & cheerful pair of JLabs.

Did you register them when you bought them?

I had a pair that lost sound to one side during the warranty period and they sent me a replacement pair without me needing to return the broken set :man_shrugging:

I hadn’t registered them, apparently that’s not the way they do things now. You now fill in a form with serial number, fault, proof of purchase etc.

Unfortunately I couldn’t find my email, I must have had a tidy up :man_facepalming:

I emailed Winstanley Bikes - who I thought I’d bought them from - & they got back to me at about 20:00 this evening with a copy of receipt.

Warranty claim has gone in, but kudos goes to Winstanley Bikes for getting back to me this evening.

I saw that Shokz recently brought out a new version of the open run pro headphones, which now have a small open air (regular style) headphone as well so that you can get better (er, some) bass out of the headphones. That’s probably a good think as I don’t rate them for music. Hopefully the volume can go up a bit more as well (not that I have any plans to upgrade) as I grumbled about that in an earlier post.

Lost my Shokz Open Run Pro on the second to last day of TCR. Replaced with Open Swim Pro… I agree with @Poet, battery life is shit, way less than Open Run Pro, and I find that sound quality is worse. Very disappointed
