So I’m thinking my 13 year old Blue Triad has seen better days.
The front end isn’t that adjustable with regards position due to a proprietary stem, plus other limitations with regards to storages and hydration.
I’m in a position where I can get whatever bike I require, but places to get my position fitted and advice given seem to be less than before.
I had a Retul before getting the Blue and still have the results. I had a wind tunnel and biomechanics assessment at the old Boardman centre in around 2018.
Both suggested a short/tall frame with a more praying mantis style using reversed 50 degree extensions
I’ve been running an 808 (90mm) front, paired with a rear disc. All mechanical and rim brakes, with bar end shifters and a Ceramic Speed OSP.
Going to be doing IM with possibly a couple of 70.3s
Would your fit and aero session still apply today?
Not being funny, but almost a decade later and the old bodies don’t tend to bend and flex like they used to!
Personally I’d be looking to get a new fit and advice first if I was in a position to chuck a few quid at getting the right solution. Bikes are much more adjustable now with options on after market cockpits, better saddles etc. So seems like it would make sense to spend some time there.
One of the reasons I went for the P-Series was because the front end is changeable, I put about 3 stems on and the current one is something like 120MM, the original was about 80mm. I might go to see John Dennis for a fit at some point.
As Bongo says, my limbs are the same length but flexibility is less than the retul fits I had in the past.
TBH, there’s a reducing number of TT bikes these days and not a huge amount of development, I think they generally spend as much on the front-end cockpit.
“Canyon Speedmax size Large - an excellent choice and they have some good discounts on their top of the range builds at the moment. Your measurements put you firmly in the middle of the adjustability on the large frame. The Medium could also be made to fit but you would be at the extremes of adjustment on that size.
Cervelo P5 or P Series size 58 - as with the Canyon you could also fit on the size down but my view is that the front end height and length of the size 58 will provide a better out of the box fit for you. Also good, fast bikes and the P Series frameset would be a good basis to build up a top spec bike with a custom spec cockpit (like Drag2Zero or similar), providing a compelling option.
Trek Speed Concept size Large - this bike will fit well with the Far Topper/Mid Base Bar combination. Availability is patchy on the full builds but framesets are available as a basis for a full custom build.
Giant Trinity Advanced size Large - this is another bike that would really benefit from a custom cockpit like D2Z, so definitely worth considering a frameset which are good value at £3750 and there is good availability at the moment.
Cadex Tri size Large - not cheap but very fast! Another good base for a custom build. It will fit very well and has good cockpit and hydration options.”
Part of the reason I got a P series was because the front end was fairly standard bars and extensions and stem so pretty easy to customise or change instead of one of the highly integrated ones. I put my old etap on which made it even easier without all the internal cable routing.
It was the basic model and even has cable disc brakes! But might change them to hydraulic. But hey, it’s for racing so who needs brakes
