Luckily I doubt heat will be a problem that day, although I’ve had a couple of nice days. And a couple of miserable ones.
Would love to do this race, never done Helvellyn before, but just not in any shape to knock out a half of any description let alone something with hills. Good luck all.
Ordered some Maurten to trial for this, seeing as it’s all self sufficient.
I need a foil blanket, as I can not locate mine and my orange bivvy bag weighs a tonne.
I just leave my bivvy bag & blanket in my backpack in case I have any problems when I’m out on my own.
Don’t forget the map.
BTW, for those of you that haven’t done this or walked the route, you really don’t need fell shoes.
I’ve generally used trail shoes like Speedcross but will almost certainly be using the Peg Trail 2’s this year. Only issue is if it’s really wet it could be a bit slippy.
If it’s bone dry you could almost get away with a pair of road shoes (not Vaporfly’s though!)
£1 at registration, isn’t it?
Dinny need a map, pal, I’ll just follow the person in front
I’m wearing either my Wildhorse 5s or Peg Shield 36s
Cheeky run route recce by one of us today
The real reason they abandoned the TT, to get some practice in
He’s not the Messiah, he’s a very naughty boy
Haha, I did take my kit (except drinks bottles, doh) in case I had some energy left after the bike race, or I didn’t finish it. Annoyingly it got quite nice about midday.
So, I decided I’d go and run the route as I had a bit of excess energy. Went fairly hard although there’s probably another 2 minutes to add onto that for the run from transition to the centre of the village. Probably could have gone a bit faster on the descent but didn’t want to risk getting blisters. It was fairly dry all the way and the trail 2’s were excellent.
If you’ve seen the photos that last little bit up the scramble looks a lot easier than in reality, about mid-way up I went left a bit and found it a bit easier, although there were quite a few people coming back down, not sure why as it’s probably the hardest way down.
Getting up is just a bit of a slog really, you might find you get a bit of backache, if you can get access to hills or a stairmill at the gym it would be good prep. Even the flattish bit halfway is not quick because of the terrain.
Oh, and parking in the village is about £9 for 8 hours! The cricket field further down should be cheaper if it’s dry and open.
Conditions were good today, bit breezy on top.
button pushed
My mate entered as Dalesman is cancelled .
Looks like a crazy race.
Interesting.
Do we know why they cancelled it? No mention on their site with a quick glance
Yeah that’s all I saw too
Reading this thread for the first time today and sounds like you lot will have a great time, that course looks fun
Talking of TTers having done it, the photo on the site looks like it’s Tom van Rossum who occassioanlly visited these parts.
Yeah, that’s him.
I used to place near to him “back in the day”
Seems like he has come a long way, baby.
It’s probably too cold for them in there. Besides which the good swimmers like Chris & Poet will be in long before me and be eaten first
