So…erm…do you need a map to get up Helvellyn and run the route?
Or, is it all pretty damn obvious?
Will I be able to navigate from the print out on the event homepage?
@Doonhamer - How did you do it this week?

I’ve got the OS map. I copied the relevant bit off & laminated it…I love laminating.
The homepage map looks perfectly fine, wrap it in a bag & tuck it down your shorts band.
Looking at race instructions you will need a waterproof map on the day.
I think the map is more a H&S thing, I suspect some people have no idea how to use one, also supposed to have a compass to go with it. I think I just put mine in a plastic sleeve to keep it dry.
It really depends on visibility and if anyone near you knows the route. If you’ve done it before or know Helvellyn it’s fairly easy. If you haven’t and visibility isn’t great you might need to use it, but that’s unlikely unless you are in the lead or something. Also think he puts out yellow signs on the route, but people do move them.
No compass requirement.
“For reasons of safety you must take with you on the run some form of bag containing full body cover, foil survival blanket, whistle and suitable map of the route.”
I doubt many can use one anyway .
Waterproof map?
Surely that’s just print it off and stick it in a A4 pouch folded over and taped up?
I still need a foil blanket, hopefully Run North West here or The Running Bear will have one
Oh, my hydration bladder was mouldy, so need a new one of them, too
Just stuck the 50/34 105 172.5mm chain set on.
Got the 12-30 cassette on there too (not race wheels, though)
Hoping to get out next week for some practise
I have plenty of mountain running kit if anyone is needing anything. @Poet if you cannot find a foil blanket let me know I can send you mine in the post. I have the the SOL blanket bivvy http://www.windsweptwriting.com/review-sol-survive-outdoors-longer-emergency-bivvy/
If anyone needs running lower half I have a pair of the innov8 ultra light waterproof trousers in medium that perfect for the bum bag and a few running packs that can be posted out.
Yeah i have some stuff I can post if anyone is short. Waterproof trousers, bivi bag etc
Cheers!
I’ve an orange bivvy bag, well, two actually!
Got tonnes of waterproof lightweight packable stuff for hiking, so that’ll do.
Just had a search for my mouldy hydration bladder…looks like I’ve binned it to prevent illness (again!)
Oh well, great excuse for a trip to Decathlon and IKEA in the rain tomorrow.
Also, gears are shifting like a dream, I did nae bother shifting the front mech down a few mm either.
Just gotta change the cockpit to 25TT/2 hour mode, instead of 70.3/140.6 (arms closer together, angle etc…)
That bivvy looks great @leahnp
Down at the in-laws today. FIL is a keen walker. Hopefully I can pinch some of his kit
@Adam happy to post stuff out as it sits in my race kit bag and this year will not be used. So anything I have can be posted Monday.
Very kind offer. I suspect the old man may have everything I need!
Okay, this - apart from the Upso saddlebag - will be my race set up.
Milled 32 tooth 11 speed cassette to fit on the old 10 speed hub, road-link to allow use of said cassette & hideous clip-ons.
Hopefully there’ll be no more fannying about required.
It even matches your mosaic.
Nope, not happening.
Is there an argument that hair on legs might actually be of benefit in an extreme triathlon where your enemy could well be cold (ambient T, descents, climbing a bloody mountain?) cf. drag from riding fast?
Yetis ain’t bald.
Father in law scores with a bivvy, whistle and foil blanket
Good old Decathlon
Chris got some useful mountain training in over the last 24 hours
What, he only did 3 climbs
