Ideas for the future of Ironman

The info I’ve seen says +50 extra Female slots at Bolton in 2023 (on top of std 55).

Ah right!
PHEW!

Yeah, I’d seen that, thought you meant it was another bumper year of an extra 50 slots for all

Someone was getting a tingle down below now that he know how cheap Kona is!!

It’s cheaper if you go now :joy: I bet all the ‘cheap’ accommodation goes really early, with the southern hemisphere KQers and Legacy bods.

I’d priced it up in 2021, too, FFS :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:
Had the cash for both of us and would’ve taken it, too.
I got back into T2 (having got a lift back) with two folks I know who went to Kona with ~13hr IMUK finish times.

As I keep saying to myself, at least my kitchen is nice.

I’ll have enough cash for myself next year, but being totally unfit, and without those extra 50 slots for everyone, I doubt I’ll be anywhere near.

It wasn’t so much the actual race, I don’t mind people being competitive and single focussed in the race, you sort of expect it even - it’s more the when you’re just out for a run on ali’i drive, stopping at the little stalls the nutritrion advertisers and stuff put out, saying hello to folk etc. they’re all treating you as if you’re some arch competition who needs to be psyched out, even though as a slightly tubby mid thirties bloke running 5min k’s looking like I’m almost dead, there’s no way I’m competing at a world champtionship, even if I was actually a competitor.

It’s a completely different environment to the other ironman’s or big events I’ve been to, where people are friendly and happy to say hello, exchange a few words whilst out.

Woohoo, AWA silver for this year! But it looks like my little welcome pack needs to be collected at my first race this year and not posted out, so I’m guessing they’re saving a bit of postage as it’s probably just a keyring again.

Assuming I actually sign up for one, having looked at the cost of a few full IM’s that is unlikely once you add on the 10% active ripoff!

I know the early entries get the flex90 and slightly cheaper entries but after that I see little reason to enter until the last minute TBH. The withdrawals\transfers have gone to the previous poor timing of 45 days before a race, that’s not good if you get injured. And a £600 outlay with little insurance seems a big risk these days.

Gold for me - not that it counts for much!

I’m on Flex90 for IM Wales but with the hip, I really have to think hard. Will make a more solid decision at Easter.

I think flex90 gives you up to 7 days before to defer?

Can’t remember the defer details but I think the refund option is slightly more favourable.

Could be an interesting listen…

They are discussing it on ST but seems like the podcast is behind a paywall.

For a week, yes. Then it’s free on their usual podcast places. I’ll wait.

What’s the feeling on ST?

They still love Lionel

 i thought it was Sam Long now?! :eagle:

Just had a quick look. Nothing yet other than the word ‘wow’ and Messick not doing himself any favours.

I listened to this weeks with Sir Brownlee.

An obvious fan-boy, but enjoyable listen.

Can’t really bring myself to visit ST these days.

Agreed, @jeffb.

For the same reasons I visit Farages Facebook page. I read the comments, shake my head at the limited outlook of the people involved and be thankful of my place on the internet.*
