Maybe not the right thread but I got confirmed as AWA Bronze for this year, despite only finishing 2 races, decent position at Denmark 70.3 but almost last at Nice
Woohoo, more tat, early entries and a special swim cap!
Probably a bit too little too late but I’ve had an email tonight about an updated myironman portal where you can see you upcoming races, age group ranking and previous races. Weird thing is that initially says going back to 2017 but I can see my races and results back to 2012.
It’s better than anything they’ve provided in the past and you can see upcoming events but it’s not very good as it says I’ve entered 3 this year but in reality I transferred out of one to another so it should be two.
Can’t think of a better thread but I’ve just noticed the Ironman app has had a big makeover, quite an improvement but not obvious how good the tracking is.
I almost forgot, listened to the Skipper interview on IMTalk this week. Some serious drawbacks in the Pro Series with the amount of racing required in a short space of time.
Full distance is short enough to be hard effort for 9 - 12 hours, but long enough to require significant recovery. I don’t find that I can go much harder in a 70.3, but because it is much shorter, I can recover pretty quickly
I think that the obsession with full IM distance hasn’t been healthy for the sport; most people who do a full IM probably shouldn’t, of course they can get round the course under the cutoff time, walking most of the run, and lets be honest, having a miserable time, but at least they can get the IM tatoo (no idea why). On the other hand, a 70.3 is still pretty hard core, however, less training is required, and many people can do it in 6-7 hours and have a really good time and not be totally destroyed at the end. I think that doing a 6h 70.3 is more impressive than a 16 hour IM.
