IM Lanzarote 2026

That’s a shame.

Why additional purchase, or why go?

Cairns and NZ the next day award ceremony included lunch, free food vouchers and 2 or 3 free drinks (Inc alcohol). Think guests were free entry but without food and drink.

I wouldn’t take a day off work or change my flights to go to one, but if hanging around on holiday it was a nice way to spend a few hours the next day. Rekindles some love seeing the sheer joy on some people’s faces to get their WC slot or AG podium

Can’t speak about the UK clubs named, but unfortunately saw this attitude in Australia. Doing fast (intimidation) reps all together up the boardwalks blocking the paths, strutting round tops off like they own the place.

Would agree with concern regarding cookie cutter plans from huge clubs that don’t have any personal input to you.

That does say something though.
Maybe only that talent attracts talent.
But think I’m thinking of the same people Mungo is referring to, who have raced well with them and seems to enjoy themselves.

Might take you up on that.
I believe I can write my own programmes, or coach others. BUT I also very much benefit from having a coach, and not having to think about what the programme should be, which costs time and a lot of mental energy/decisions/questioning. I also enjoy the sport more.

I’ve only been part of very small 1-1 coaching set ups, but I know I cost my old coach more than 2 hours per week of their time, so they earned less than £10ph coaching me.

Alex Dalton agrees
Lanza 2024.

Basically aced it.
Tri central now ? Foggy is his coach I believe he tried the other mob and hinted they were too
“ elite”

With people spending 6/8 k on a bike it’s much more cost effective.

Back in the day of Ken and Glenda Baggs, there was a ‘meltdown’ party but this was separate to roll down. I can’t remember if competitors had to buy a ticket but non competitors did for sure. It used to have unlimited beer pitchers on each table. Then it changed to a two drink voucher system.

The carb loading dinner was free for competitors (the last one I went to was approx $30 for non competitors ), had loads of good speeches and history and a really good welcome for 1st timers. Then they did away with that and went with vouchers for local restaurants, which wasn’t as good IMO.
One cool thing that used to happen at Forster was participating shops used to ‘sponsor’ a selection of competitors and fill their windows with good lunch messages. the idea was that you sought out the shop with you name on and talk to the owners (and of course, spend some money!)

Why list things that are included, when they aren’t?

I’d seek out any shop for a good lunch :yum:

From the outside it does seem like there’s a very strong Lancashire group of 30-45yo M with an unofficial (although many have migrated into TriCentral) training group together, regular group rides, open water swims, or doing the same competitions abroad.

 I’m leaving that one in

I know a few of them
Good to very fast age groupers up to your sort of level
As far as I’m aware they don’t “ strut about “ and nobody “ shows off there 10 grand bikes”!
Mostly humble / normal / talented guys who just want to go fast.

It seems this about what other age groupers THINK there like rather than real life.

Yes I have nothing bad to say about any of the Tri Preston guys I met, all lovely gents, particularly referring to Dan, Tom and Alex, and hence I assume their friends to be similar by association. That was why I was pausing Poets naming of clubs given I know some of them to be ok. And that the club is successful at imuk suggests they work well.

My regret would be I don’t know them better, but usual struggle at making group sessions and by time I was getting invested in Tri properly we left Lancashire.

Same training, same competitions, same coach…same nutrition…,…same supplements………

I don’t know any of the groups or people in question so I can fling as much poo as I like

And whilst I’m sure they are, and as you seem a sound chap and say they are, I’ll take your word for it.

My opinion has only been informed by perception from a single event :woman_shrugging:t4::face_with_peeking_eye:

I joined up for drinks with a tri club after a race. Eventually mentioned drafting. A lot of sideways glances ensued. And “I wasn’t really racing” “Matters at the front of the race” type comments.

Nice bunch though.

I was hovering over the enter button for 2025, and a few weeks ago it definitely said you could pay in 3 installments. That option now appears to have gone… Did anyone else see it, or am I going mad?

I’ve done Lanza twice, and love it - I’m not sure how long it’s going to be around given the dwindling numbers, so want one last hurrah. But not at those prices!!!

You’re probably thinking of the Payment Option Plan

I used this for Frankfurt last year, can’t find reference to it for Lanzarote. Maybe see if it appears in the options at Checkout?

I think it’s usually in the first 90 days so should be available unless they’ve stopped it.

Can you pay via PayPal? Then you’ll be able to pay over three months (appears on your credit report though I think).

I did Lanza in ‘08. It was a good day out. Is the El Golfo section back on the route?

Flex90 is there for Lanza but I don’t see mention of the Payment Option Plan. I clicked through some of the registration to see if it appeared, but didn’t go to checkout

@Ozzie1973 drop them an email, they’re usually quite responsive

Their IT is shit so it would t surprise me if some part timer hasn’t updated the site properly
